<p>About 2 months ago, I was deferred from University of Pittsburgh Main Campus. I am planning to enter Pitt Main Campus with a major in Elementary Education, which is a 5 year graduate program. I have a 3.7 overall GPA (4.3 senior year GPA). My SAT scores are a 550 Reading, 570 Math, and 530 Writing (1120/1650). 27 ACT score. I’ve taken the SAT three times and have gotten almost the same score every time. I had two excellent recs and a really well written first essay. I do a lot of extra curriculars, volunteer work (I’ve been on four mission trips), National Honors Society, and I’m currently in a dual enrollment 3 credit course for teachers that allows me to intern in schools in my area. My senior year grades have been very good so far, and I am sending in two more letters of recommendation. All I have left to do is the deferred decision essay… and I have NO idea of what to write. I’ve been putting it off for weeks now, and its due in a little over a month. I really just want to get it out the way… but I have a severe case of writer’s block! Can someone please help?! Any suggestions of topics or subjects to write about would be greatly appreciated.</p>
<p>I was also deferred and have to write the essay, but I received a paper with different things to include in mine. I included the main area of topics on that paper, and then also included questions that I had to answer in the interview that I felt did not go as well as I had hoped. Focus on why Pitt should accept you into their university. Maybe you have someone in your family who is a teacher, or a family friend that helped you make your decision to go into teaching? You are going to have to try to make yourself stand out from the rest of the essays that they are going to be getting. I hope this helps you some! Good luck!</p>
<p>Thank you! I also received a paper with things to include in mine. I opted out of doing an interview, what were some of the questions they asked during it, if you don’t mind me asking? I actually wrote my first essay on how my mom is a teacher and how I’ve been really involved in community service that involves teaching young children, so I have already covered your suggestions in my first essay I sent with my application. Great suggestion though, I already got that covered! Thanks for your help. I hope you get accepted also!</p>
