Deferred from USF

I got deferred from USF today what can I do to get get accepted? I really want to go to USF it’s my top choice.

Well what did they say? Typically they give you a reason as to why you were deferred.

I have a friend who works for undergraduate USF so she checked my application. It didn’t show up on my oasis account however she said I was deferred and that my test scores were too low which was the reason why I got deferred.

Well what were your test scores? Try and bring them up. Take the ACT or SAT the next time they come around and send them in.

USF was my first choice until I got in to St. John’s in NYC. I really don’t care whether or not I get in anymore. I have not heard back yet either.

Also did you write the optional essay? Are you a legacy? Are you in or out of state?

My highest ACT score was 22, and I’m not considering retaking it again. I checked using the matrix and it said I needed 4 or more academic factors or else I will be deferred. I officially have 3 academic factors, but I’m not sure if they received my recent transcripts showing I am taking a higher level math senior year which would then give me 4. Which ever the case may be, even if I don’t retake the SAT or ACT again what else could I do to get accepted?

I submitted a resume and an essay with my application when I applied in October. I am a Florida resident, and legacy? No. lol

I got a 22 as well. I kind of wish I would of worked harder on it actually…

But I’m really not too sure. Trust me, I know how big of a pain it is to take the ACT, but think about it. Say you do get it up, you will more than likely be at USF for the next four years and you will be thanking yourself for taking the ACT that one last time. Now if it’s a financial issue, (can’t pay for the test), then you may want to call and/or e-mail the admissions office and see exactly what you can do aside from taking another test.

I’m just bad at taking standardized tests, I do well in school and everything but not those types of tests. My friend said I’ll hear back from them late February/early March. Do you think if I submit recommendation letters it’ll help me a lot?

Recommendation letters could very well help.

What was your intended major, and what was your highest section of testing on the ACT? Maybe if you applied for a different major that complimented your scores more you will have a better shot.

My intended major is Nursing, and my highest section was English. When you first apply does USF only look at your GPA and test scores?

Well I’m not too sure. Like I said, I really have no interest in that school anymore. I’d rather be in New York City haha.

But I heard that they’re very random about things. I’ve heard of people with a way lower ACT score get into that school; yet I’ve also heard of people with way high scores being denied.

So I’m not all too sure what they look at. If I find out I get deferred as well, I’ll let you know.

I also found out I was deferred a couple of weeks ago :frowning:
I have a 3.67 uw and a 4.0 w but my guidance counselor said that my test scores were lower than what they want.
My SAT is a 1650 combined, 1110 just CR and Math.
My ACT (which I regret sending) is a 23 combined and a 21 Math and Reading.
I’m re-taking both of them in the next two weeks, I sent two recommendation letters and a personal statement from myself. I’m hoping to get in as USF is my first choice. Best of luck to you, too :)

I am sending in one letter of recommendation today, do you think I should send in two? I reallyyy don’t want to take another SAT or ACT because I know I’m not a good test taker =/ I sent in an essay and a resume along with my application back in October so now that I am deferred will they be forced to look at that part of my application?

I’m sending in two but they tell their deferred students not to send in more than that. I’m sure that one good recommendation letter is fine. I also resent my resume but with a bunch of stuff I forgot to add/have done since I first applied, and a personal letter. I’m basing my chance of acceptance off of their eligibility matrix. Looks like I’m in the lime green so I am close (I think?). I’ll link you so that you can see where you stand and if you need to re-take your SAT/ACT. http://usfweb2.usf.edu/Admissions/pdf/counselor-grid.pdf

How do you send in the resume and personal statement again? I checked their eligibility matrix and it says I need 4 or more academic success factors which I have, yet I don’t know why I got deferred. Maybe once they see my semester grades I’ll get admitted? I’m not sure…

maybe it was test scores? I don’t really know :
i just went to my guidance counselor and she sent them for me!
