Deferred to Waitlist, Courtesy rejection?

I was Deferred—>Waitlisted

I dont see the point in this? is this just a curteousy rejection? Or do they actually seriosly consider you. I feel like my partcular deferred–>waitless status spells doom because they’ve bascally reviewed me twice and twice i wasnt good enough.

Should i just see this as a rejection?

Bump…waitlisted…me taking it as a flat rejection. Don’t raise yr hopes again. The unusual no. of waitlisters confirms what many admission experts said before, that schools are using waitlists this yr to protect themselves against the uncertain yield due to the huge incr of apps across schools. If u get accepted frm another school, my advice is take it and move on, and that’s what I’m doing.

you guys are much more fortunate than I am. I got a FLAT REJECTION after deferral. Not even a waitlist. Damn it. Gotta go to a Cali school.

I think you can have hope.

UChicago has admitted many students who’s of HYPS calibre. They are very likely to have the lowest yield rate in the school’s history. so WL means hope.

Yeah, judging from the decisions thread, they are probably going to be sharing lots of cross-admits with more selective institutions. Which, obviously, will lead to a low yield rate. Perhaps they’ll be getting tons off the waitlist. Nevertheless, I’m not waiting. I’ve pretty much crossed them off my list now.
