Deferred U Mich Ann Arbor Class of 2021

Also 2 kids from my school got in today, so who knows.

My friend got in today

none of my college decisions are working out this is depressing :frowning:

^ same. just got rejected from UCLA. Getting direct admission into CS is so hard.

rejected from UCLA too

guys, everything will be okay, God has a plan for us, if we get in, great, if we don’t, it’s gonna be a heartbreak, but not the end of the world. in the end it’s what we become, not necessarily where we went. i think this will be my last post on this thread…my next one will be if i got in or not or i may forget to but ya good lucky everyone :–)

@uofmfan I promise you god is sleeping on us rn

Literally every other school to which my son has applied has given him an answer. Purdue. Pitt. Virginia Tech. Miami. Indiana. Northeastern. Syracuse. Villanova. And he was good enough to be accepted by all. Yet the wannabe Ivy League school Michigan still has him waiting on its deferred list in mid-March.

just got into wisconsin after being deferred around the same time as michigan… keeping hopes up that it will come soon!!

Guys, this is turning into a “bash UofM” thread. Just because UofM wants us to wait for a time that they have been telling us all along doesn’t they are at fault in anyway. I totally get how the wait is brutal, but be happy that you are intelligent enough to even apply to a top school that UofM is. Count your blessings and not your heartbreaks.

@UofMichigan1999 You don’t have to be smart to apply to U of M. Anyone can.

You have to be smart to get deferred. Loads of my friends that are barely average applied (I live in Michigan) and they already got rejected in Dec or recently

@UofMichigan1999 I know 0 people who have been denied. And I know absolute idiots who were accepted. Stats have little correlation to actual intelligence.

That’s true and intelligence is very subjective unlike stats. And that’s strange. I know around 4 to 5 that were rejected. I go to a really big school so word spreads fast if someone does.

Have rejections been coming out recently?

I was deferred in December, but then admitted about a week ago. I had applied to Ross as a preferred admit and I am yet to hear back from them. Does anyone have any idea when Ross decisions are released?

@UofMichigan1999 - Because it’s gone from the sublime to the ridiculous. I was one preaching patience here a couple months ago, but it’s become VERY apparent that Michigan is more concerned with gaming the stats by this point. There’s absolutely no way they don’t know who is and isn’t going to be invited this late in the game, but they seem more focused on upping that selectivity ranking on US News & World Report than they are about the actual students themselves. And from what I’ve read the past few years, this is nothing new for it.

Waitlisted at UCLA. Yet another wait :frowning:

@bsangs then let it be. They will try their best to increase the rankings. That is their right to decide how things will play out. There is no point in complain about the same process they have been using for the last couple of years.

And ohh btw, they have been periodically (or maybe randomly) releasing acceptances and rejections. They are doing everything they said they were going to with a little bit more by sending those apps out early. Just because you or I didn’t receive an early decision doesn’t give us grounds to start hating their method or their madness.

And comparing UofM’s high volume of applications to smaller schools that maybe are lucky to get half of what UofM gets is immensely unfair. They have more apps so they have more work. More work doesn’t mean they can finish it as quickly as they used to. If they did, they would lose the subjectivity of their holistic approach and only look at GPA and scores. Would you be fully comfortable and confident that you could get in with only those? I would guess no. Or at least I wouldn’t. I am happy they are taking their time because then they are looking past everyone’s GPA and SAT and actually looking at the applicant as a person. NOT a set of numbers.

I didn’t realize how much I wanted UMich until I got accepted into programs that didn’t directly admit me into CS or got rejected from other colleges. Is it too late to send a letter of continued interest? Is 1 short paragraph enough or should I find something else to add onto it?
