Deferred U Mich Ann Arbor Class of 2021

are decisions for deferred students coming out?

When I click on Application Status, The only links are View Application data and View Credentials. Were would the View Decision be in relation to those?

Next to it

Aight thanks. @mimimo7890.

Literally counting down the minutes until midnight Eastern Time

Did anyone previous get in w/o having view decisions go away?

^Don’t think so

I know I have said this multiple times. I don’t think I ever had that View Decision. Has anyone who never had it and just got the deferral email get in?

@mimimo7890 yea it disappeared sometime late afternoon

@scubadiverman From what I’ve gathered, the lack of a View Decision link corresponds with the “bad” deferral letter asking specifically for 7th semester grades. A few people were admitted in early February with the bad deferral letter in previous years, but I haven’t seen anyone like that on CC this year.

You think Ross decisions will come out, too?

What is a good deferred letter?

Alright thanks. @APJunkie24 . So it is still possible for me to get a response before April?

@scubadiverman Yes, and it could be at any time. Someone with that letter got in in early March one year, and like I mentioned others got in in February. The decisions might come later in general due to the time needed to review 7th semester grades, but there’s definitely a possibility of getting in before April.

@Holasenior2017
The “good” deferral letter goes something like this:
"Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Engineering. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review. An official communication will be sent to your email address on file.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2017.

Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQ?s about the admission process and what to do next.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year."

Whereas the “bad deferral letter” is:
"Thank you for your freshman application to the University of Michigan. After an initial individualized and comprehensive review of your application, we have determined that we will need additional information in order to make a final decision. We will not re-evaluate your application file until after our regular decision deadline of February 1, 2017. We need this additional information and time to ensure that we give your application the best possible review. We will notify you of a final decision on your application by early April.

The quality of grades earned in academic courses is one of several critical factors taken into consideration in evaluating a student’s competitive admissibility. To give your application a final evaluation, we will need your fall semester or first trimester grades. Because it is important that we receive these grades as soon as possible, please request to have a PDF of your grades sent from the issuing institution to our office via an e-transcript vendor or to ecredentials@umich.edu. If your counselor sent the initial School Report for your application through The Common Application online portal, they will need to complete the 2016-2017 MidYear Report using the same method. Otherwise, please ask your high school counselor to fax a report of these grades to our office at 734-936-0740.

Be sure your U-M ID XXXXXXXX is on all materials submitted to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

We appreciate your interest in the University of Michigan and look forward to receiving the information requested. If you have specific follow-up questions, please visit https://umich.custhelp.com or phone 734-764-7433. We look forward to reviewing your completed application and appreciate your interest in the University of Michigan."

My interpretation is not that one of them is “good” and the other is “bad”, but that the primary difference is that the 2nd letter is asking specifically for more information, including but not limited to 7th semester grades. The 2nd letter might be sent in the case of an upward GPA trend (the admissions office wants to confirm that the trend is continuing) or a unique educational situation. For example, someone else receiving the “bad” letter was doing a co-op program their senior year while only taking 3 classes, and I think I received the “bad” letter because I am graduating high school a year early. People can be admitted, waitlisted, or rejected with either of the letters.

@APJunkie24 Thanks. I am anxious but we shall see. Hopefully the wait is worth it.

I just don’t think there’s good/bad cause the stoner who sits next to me in class has a 2.7 GPA with a 30 on the ACT(his only extracurricular is one varsity sport). And he got the “good one”. So I’m skeptical

I’m curious about the fact that they send two kind of letters

@scubadiverman I never had it just got the email

Did you get in already @juntao99 ?
