it seems today is another way, any news?
^^?
in the past years the wave is around the first friday of march
My D came off the deferred and was accepted today. I wanted to just post so you could keep an eye on your emails. I know this is mostly students posting here, I want to respect that, but at the same time I wanted to give you a heads up. I hope you all get good news very soon.
stayed up til 12am on march 1st to check WA. my portal still hasn’t updated but this deferral is giving me false hope urgh. I really do wish they didn’t just defer everyone even people who didn’t have a chance in the first place
followurheart, congrats to your daughter. Are you in-state or OOS?
I applied in 22 lmao. 2 of my friends applied to more than 35 ( all over the world)
@MomTraveler , thank you. We are OOS.
I have to admit, I am getting a bit frustrated with all of the OOS folks being admitted and no news for in state kids. This is a state school, they are deferring/denying in state kids to get more money. They say that is not what it is about, but based on educational funding in Michigan, it definitely has an impact. I understand geographical diversity, but the taxpayers fund part of the school. If they don’t want to be a state school, go private, they would still have crazy applicant numbers and their yield would probably be higher.

Interesting trends in competitiveness and residency stats. According to this link, resident and non-resident students were nearly 50/50 last year even though resident freshmen student counts maintained around 3400 year to year.
umich is called the most private of the public universities in the united states because it receives so little funding from the state, has lots of out of state students, and has a huge endowment. umich can never go private because they are bound to the state constitution.
so do we think no big release this friday?
Maybe but who knows, could be next week
@gm18 I just have a sense that some students will start hearing at midnight tonight or possibly tomorrow…just a hunch. Last year there was a big “drop” on the first Thursday of March (at midnight), but there have been releases on Wednesday midnight this year. Using that logic, we are 7+ hours away…or not…
My son just received a phone call to schedule his HAIL interview . . .
My husband went to UMich for undergrad and med school
and an older son will graduate from UMich COE in April (was in the marching band al 4 years) - we are In state.
My son that got deferred had a 1510 on the SAT, 34 on the ACT (36 Math), 5 AP classes (is currently taking AP Stats and AP Calc at the same time), National Merit Commended Scholar, unweighted GPA of 3.95 with four years of marching band in high school (currently Center Snare), and last January and February we traveled to Ann Arbor so he could practice with the UofM drumline. He has been in most school musical productions (avg 3 per year) and is currently performing his second show with our local Civic theater. He applied EA and didn’t even fill out any other apps until he got deferred!! Since then he applied to Stanford, Columbia, Northwestern and Clemson (got accepted there with a $15,000 a year scholarship, so we are going to visit in April). UofM was basically his ONLY choice - we have had season football tickets for 20+ years - it is the only school he cared about until he was deferred.
@gdcap62 if it’s tonight someone’s view decision link should drop
Maybe not though since they updated WA ^^
Something interesting I’ve just noticed. While in my daily routine of checking Wolverine Access (and continuing to see my pesky deferral letter) I have seen that the message which used to say that my decision would be released by “April 1, 2017” now says by “April, 2017”.
Still hoping for a decision in the coming days, but this is not a promising development if true.
anyone deferred EA hear back from Ross yet?
@capitalboi your probably just reading too far into it, it probably doesn’t mean much
