I got deferred from northeastern. I applied into Bouve as a communications disorders major. I changed my mind recently and I now want to major in math for a teaching license. Is it a good idea to switch my major if possible? Is math less competitive?
Also-they said to send in your senior year grades. My first term grades-which they saw- were stellar. My second term grades are ok, but not as good. should I still send them?
I have a 2100 and a 32 act and a 3.8 weighted gpa. My science ACT was a 25 but the average of the other sections was a 34. Could it be that they didnt like that my science was so low and I applied into a scienceish field?
Thanks!

Yeah, I switched my intended major to math. I hope it doesn’t hurt too much because I would like to teach math more than I would like to do speech path.

You need to send your second term grades. You have no choice. It is still an open-ended application, so if you don’t send them, your materials won’t be complete and you’ll get rejected flat out.

Ugh–so i need to tell my school that I want them sent and pay the transcript fee again??

… Yes. If you want to go to school here.

Yikes…I wish I were more motivated for Northeastern:( I truly love Northeastern so much, it’s one of my 2 top choices-, but I don’t think I would be able to afford to go there. My family won’t qualify for Financial Aid and if I got deferred, there’s a slim chance of getting in, so I shouldn’t even think of scholarships.

Ehh keep your head up! I got deferred, but honestly, a great majority did… even someone I thought would be declined… so don’t be so down yet.

I’m seeing if I can get my grades up first so I will even have a chance of being accepted next time around and see if I get enough financial aid (probably not). Also, my great uncle was a dean there so I will see if he can pull some strings.

I know people that I thought would get declined for sure that got in as well, isn’t this a bad sign showing that they didn’t flat out reject anyone? I was thinking about sending in an additional art supplement for Dance that i should have sent in before but didn’t, thoughts? not gonna lie I’m pretty bummed. A small part of me was hoping i would get in and this whole college process could finally be over.

Since you have a 3.8 and a 2100 Id think its your essay. Im only saying this because I have worse stats than many who were deferred EA but the people that have read my essay all agree it is very good.

my stas are ~3.8 and 1420/2070 by the way

Question…I really hope this isn’t out of line, but what are some schools that are similar to Northeastern, just as a backup, if I don’t get in after being deferred?

I wrote my essay about being a peer mentor this year and how I realized that I love teaching. My English teacher liked it, but it could have been too cliche.
Aditya: if you want to major in science, look into API. My sister went there and loved it.

Sorry, I meant WPI

A lot of the top-level state schools (like University of Florida) are “on par” with Northeastern technically. The issue arises when you look at the atmosphere- most of those schools are massive and are on a huge campus in the middle of nowhere.

I don’t know one person who actually got denied which means they are probably going to be giving out a lot of denials with RD. I feel like if they are going to defer so many people than they shouldn’t offer EA.
