Deferred

Just got a letter in the mail a few days ago requesting my mid year grades and senior SAT or ACT. I assume this is because my SAT scores are not very high. I did not plan on taking any more standardized tests. I have taken the SAT 3 times and my score barely improved each time. Should I take the ACT? What else can I do to improve my chances of being accepted with the regular pool of applicants?
I applied to the Swanson School of Engineering for Industrial Engineering.
SAT: 1850
GPA: 4.0 (UW)

Is there a way to change your major after being deferred and have them evaluate you for another major? I really want to get into Pitt, as it is one of my top choices.

Some students do better on the ACT than the SAT. I’ve heard that the ACT may be better suited for math and science majors, but I haven’t seen any data to support that. If you’ve taken the SAT 3 times already, it may be worth it to take the ACT.

I would contact Pitt and give the ACT a try in October.

I would definitely take a look at ACT, October sitting.
