deferring admission until pro career over

If an accepted prospective student turns professional in a sport before enrolling in a college, will a university defer admission; if so, how long and can admission be deferred indefinitely until the student retires from the sport? Assume that the prospective student is above the academic mean for a particular school (the school did not lower/waive any admission criteria based upon the sport) and no LOI was involved. If anyone has information, can you cite me to the source please?

Deferments are normally one year. You should email the admissions at one of the colleges and ask if they ever allow a longer deferment.

I believe too that playing for pay eliminates playing for colleges…the student is no longer ncaa eligible

Definitely, the student could be admitted on academics, but could never play.
