Deferring

Hi,

I got into NYU Stern, but my top choice was Wharton. I got rejected from Wharton, but I still really want to go. I am for sure taking a year off next year, so I want to reapply. I know I cant reapply to Penn if I tell NYU i intend on going to Stern even if I defer. But NYU has this option “Updated Admisiion” (described below) which would give me the opportunity to reapply to Penn. The issue is that I may lose my spot at Stern bc admission is not guaranteed. Does anyone have any info about this? what is the admit rate for this updated admission?

In all likelihood you have shamed and dishonored your family by getting into Stern instead of Wharton. I am of the opinion that you should commit seppuku instead of deferring your admissions.

is it absolutely horrible that I really want to go to Penn and think the “campusness” of it fits me more than that of NYU?

You should give Stern a shot. If you don’t like it, keep those grades up and apply to transfer into Penn.

transferring to ivies is ridiculously hard. in some cases, even harder than freshman year applications

^that may be true for some schools like Yale, but out of the majority of ivies Penn is relatively freindly to transfer applicants. However, I agree with Vonegutted you should go to Stern keep your grades up and transfer for your sophomore year. Stern is amazing and you should definitely give it a shot. They don’t have a 97% retention rate for nothing.
