Degree + Career + Marriage + Home + Family (In That Order)

For those seeking a degree it’s easy to get distracted but the title of this post can give you a fresh perspective of ordering your goals. It’s been said if your not leading your own heart then something or someone else is.

Get that degree first.

Focus on getting a good job/career second while developing many great friendships of the opposite sex.

Once you’ve landed the career begin evaluating your friendships for potential life partner; do they have qualities that are even better than their appearance–will they make a good mother/father of your children? Are you on the same page in the same direction and are you best friends?

Begin your serious relationship–geared towards marriage.

Marry and find your dream home.

Start a Family!

Build wealth - you’ll need it.

Consider advancing your degree.

Give back!

Obviously goals can be adjusted but it’s important to have them, to be disciplined about them, and to guard your heart from anything or anyone who might keep you from reaching them.

As Zig Ziglar said, “If you aim at nothing, you will hit it everytime.”

???
Marriage+Family is becoming a tad (read:extremely) outdated as a standardizeable goal.
Not everyone will consider it as more than an afterthought, and I don’t know that many people who even bother.

And then there’s “Home”. Are you serious?

Thanks, Dr. Phil.
Now could you give me advice about what to do for my projectile oral diarrhea?

Sorry but I do not plan on getting married just getting laid. Alot.

“Listen to me; don’t make the same mistakes I made when I was young. F*** a lotta women Dwayne, not just one woman, a lotta women.”
-Little Miss Sunshine

Uhhh. Are you straight out of the fifties? Because /seriously./

I’m asexual. I should hope there’s more to life than marriage and children, since it’s pretty damn unlikely that either will feature in my future.

Here’s my order:

Get my degree (have it) + Live life like everyday is my last.

Your order sucks lol.

talk about a boring, prepackaged life. you living by everyone’s rules but your own, I suppose, laptop

Phase 1: Collect Underpants.
Phase 2: ?
Phase 3: Profit!

Degree + Career + Marriage + Home + Family = The Most Worthless Life Ever Lived

When you’re done let me know, I’ll get you a procreation badge.

Having a family is not as outdated as some of you make it seem. Besides, whats wrong with having a family?

ummm not even my parents tell me how to live my life… so no thank you

sure this isn’t the life for everyone. but i’d say for the majority all those things get touched at one point or another. i don’t know too much about the order though. keep in mind also, most of us here are in our late teens, early 20s. the idea of marriage and family is not even on the radar for some of us. actually to get to marriage you probably have to be dating and seeing girls/guys, and this is CC…

1…sex

2…hapiness

3…well I dont have anything else, these are the only things that will make my life a heaven, dont care about anything else

I have no desire to get married or have a family. So I suppose my list would be:
Degree >> Career >> Home >> Retirement >> 80 y/o slut.

Somehow my priorities and life changes are askew in comparison to the average American lifestyle. It worked for me in this order

Marriage > Career > Wealth > House > Degree

I can’t relate to anyone I’m attending school with except for other adults in their late 30’s. I’m the only 20 year old that I know that owns a house but not a college degree.

Thanks for assuming all of us want children. I have no desire whatsoever to procreate, thanks, and I don’t look for someone who will be a good parent when I look for a prospective significant other. I don’t even really know if want to get married at all. Marriage seems really just not something I’d be interested in. I’d like to have a long-term partner but would probably only get married if we were living somewhere which grants many more rights to married couples than cohabitating unmarried adults (if we’re living in the US or something, then probably would but nothing extravagant).
But honestly, I want to get my undergraduate and graduate degrees and be able to travel all over the place doing my research (and traveling for fun too), and that is a little more difficult when you have someone else to drag along who also probably wants a stable career.

Vehicle, I can relate because for me it was similar:

Career > Degree

Earning wealth isn’t a stage, it’s a mindset. I’ve been earning wealth ever since I decided not to buy a TV for my bedroom but instead invested in high yield savings accounts when I was 12.

First you get the money, then you get the power, then you get the women.
