I’m a freshman and I am very interested in the medium between businesses/organizations and the people/customers.

So should I get a B.A. in Public Relations and minor in Marketing, getting experience in both…

or should I get a B.B.A. in Marketing, getting the boring Finance/Accounting experience instead of PR?

In the field of marketing, you don’t normally have to deal with numbers, so I think the B.A. would give me myself better experience, but for some reason, a B.B.A. is exalted by employers…

So basically, do today’s employers look for “know-how” or the “prestige” in a degree?

Ha…what do you mean you don’t have to deal with numbers in marketing? I think you need to research the field of marketing a little bit more. Marketing is ALL about numbers…market research.

Granted, there are different parts of marketing…but when you first start out you’ll be doing the grunt work…which is market research, then work your way up to the good stuff.

I love doing research, I love doing statistics and that kind of stuff like you just pointed out. I research stuff all the time and I enjoy it.

I hate keeping spreadsheets and determining the fiscal plans for the company. In research, you find out facts and you dig into things and figure out the consumer behaviors and desires.

It’s fun to find out what people think and make decisions based on that.

It’s boring to me to look at last quarter’s figures and determine how to make them better next quarter.
