"Degree Requirements???"

What does this mean? It has if for most of the majors. This is what i found: [General Catalog - Undergraduate Education - Undergraduate Degree Requirements](http://catalog.berkeley.edu/undergrad/requirements.html) Are those the degree req?

I think those are the things you have to complete in order to graduate, so yeah. For instance, American Cultures is required. However, you can pass out of R&C classes, if you have completed an alternative course that counts for Berkeley.

There are a hierarchy of requirements that all must be met to graduate with the degree you are attempting.

UC wide requirements: Entry level writing and American History & Traditions
UCB requirement: American Cultures
requirements of your college - things like breadths, R&C, but also total units, upper division unit minimums, out of major minimums, etc
requirements of your major: a list of prereqs, required and optional classes, unit minimums, minimums by category, out of major, classes that must be taken here, etc.

For example, L&S requires:
quantitative reasoning
foreign language
reading and composition A & B
Seven breadth classes, specific courses qualify and some limits on combinations
120 units mininum
60 units minimum of the total must be in L&S
36 units minimum must be upper division courses (numbered 100-199) out of the 120
6 of the upper division unit must be out of your major
requirements for minimum ‘residency’ on campus
lists of a few special classes that satisfy multiple requirements, e.g. L&S 44

Other colleges such as CoE and CNR have their own list of requirements that replace the ones I listed above for L&S

For a mathematics major in L&S, to further illustrate the requirements, you would ALSO need to have completed math 1a, math 1b, math 53, math 54, math 55, math 104, math 110, math 113, and math 185. Then two courses must be taken from three short ‘semi-elective’ lists and they can’t both be from the same list. Finally, two other upper division math courses must be taken - these require approval of a faculty advisor. There are different requirements if the math major is with teaching concentration or is in applied math.

Some departments may set their own requirements, such as a different minimum score on AP to get credit, or designate certain classes as mandatory, even if someone took an AP equivalent, or specific some that must be taken only at UC Berkeley. For each major or minor you are considering, you need to look at those detailed conditions.

Thanks rider
