@SALSRL It seems extra disappointing for in state students to be waiting so long! So glad your son has other good options to choose from:)
@SALSRL What kind of engineering? My S was accepted to the Mechanical Engineering program 12/24 and already attended the Feb Decision Day. The Chem E program is more competitive so I’m thinking if that was his choice they may be holding back some trying to figure out how many spaces are left…one of our in state schools did this to my S. He decided while he was waiting he would rather go to one of the SEVERAL programs he was accepted to. Good thing as they ended up accepting him to the school (with merit money) but not into the engineering program. The whole experience was frustrating and disappointing. I hope yours turns out better. I have a feeling it will.
@crazymamaB He applied for Electrical Engineering. We are OOS/NJ He more than qualifies and has been accepted to other programs with great merit packages. We are going back to visit two of the programs he was accepted to over Spring Break. I have a feeling my S has totally written UDel off at this point. Other schools have “shown him the love”. UDel has never once contacted him after the initial email that they received his info and his application was ready for review. That was 12/3! Best of luck to your S too!
“Showing the love” really does make a difference to these kids. Of course they are going to pick a school that wants them over one that can’t be bothered to give them an answer. Just look at it as UDel’s loss. Some other lucky school will benefit!
I’m going into week 24 waiting to hear back. I got notification in early January that they needed more time to make an admissions decision… This is getting really annoying as my cousin is a freshman and synchronized skater at UD and is hoping I’ll join her on the team. I’m accepted at 11 other schools and the longest wait I had to hear from them was at most two to three months.
all I can so to those waiting is hang in there… it’s not a rejection yet… my senior UD daughter never even had UD on her radar… even back then before rolling admission it was the last school we heard from… funny thing was because she didn’t know she really wanted to go there at the time we never thought twice about it till the acceptance arrived in the mail. only after that we considered it and it was the best decision of her life! as much as all those other acceptance help ease the pain there’s a reason you are holding out… my sophomore UD son did the same thing! we waited and waited… constantly checking the portal for the slightest change… we were the first year of the rolling style admission… every comment on here is exactly what I read that year as well… once again when he finally go that acceptance around 13 weeks it was the best thing ever… all the other scholarship offers and 9 other acceptances went right out the window for UD… keep in mind the last two years of rolling admission UD got wayyyyyy more students accepting into the university than they expected to accept! My son’s class by over 400 students… so they may be even more cautious this year as a result… I have a niece waiting on nursing so I feel your pain but it’s an important process… Look at the bright side… May 1st is about 5 weeks away… by then you will KNOW where you’re going to school and this will all be a memory… hang in there… the wait is worth it!
We just received notification via updated portal of ADMITTANCE 4 months later! Not sure where we go from here but those of you who are waiting… I’m sure more acceptances will be rolling out this week!
My D’s portal was updated today with her acceptance!! Her application was completed mid-December, 14.5 weeks ago. Her standardized test scores were not the highest, so we weren’t sure what would happen. She’s OOS, visited twice and did the admissions interview. Her stats: GPA 3.7 W/3.3 UW, SAT 1500 (1000 for CR and math). She was accepted into the College of Health Sciences Medical Diagnostics major. She’s beyond happy - it was her first choice school!
@njmamapapa @Chocohol So happy for the both of you! Still waiting here for Engineering… At least, we know they are making more decisions!
My D says many friends are still waiting to hear from all kinds of schools. She has yet to hear from The College of NJ, and someone on that thread said they were told the college will still be sending out additional decisions as late as next week. Frustrating, but that’s the way it goes. D applied to U Del 11/15 and was accepted first week in January, but she is not in anything as competitive as nursing/business/engineering.
Just called admissions asking for a date of when I will know by, seeing that I’ve heard from 18 other schools and it is week 24 without any notification from UD. The rather rude employee I spoke to told me to “read my letter received on January 8th to answer my questions”. The letter said that I would know by late April; I told her I was simply asking if she had any rough estimate of time being that I am waiting to put my down deposit for another school. This just makes me veer away from UD even more.
I wonder what the excuse would be for my S seeing as though we have had no email from them since 12/3!!
I called admissions last week and was told that everyone would definitely get a decision by April 1 latest. My daughter’s application was submitted the first week in September. She just found out a few days ago that she was admitted, but not to her first choice major. So it was a 30 week wait! UDel was originally her first choice (my older daughter is currently a junior there and loves it.) But she’s fine with it because, while waiting to hear back from UDel, she visited lots of other colleges to which she was accepted and found one that she likes more. So it all worked out, but would have been nice to have known the admission decision earlier.
SALSRL have u called recently? I called twice then acceptance came week later worth a try?
Here’s my story…My son’s application was received on 10/22. In Jan, he received notification that he was deferred. So, it’s been over 20 weeks. I sent a “chat message” to Admissions today asking if they planned on updating the portal with any more admissions decisions this week. The rep answering me said my son’s application was being reviewed by a second admissions rep, which was “common practice.”
I probably overstepped my bounds, but I asked if it’s common practice for good news or bad. The rep reiterated it was common practice in order for them to do their “due diligence” and he should be hearing something in the next couple of days. This is that last school we are waiting to hear from after a VERY LONG and weary road with some acceptances and some tough declines. Maybe I’m just hyper sensitive to more bad news. But to me “due diligence” means: we need to make sure we cover all our bases before we say no to your son, in the event you decide to wig out on us. My son’s numbers are a little below the accepted averages, so I would not wig out or be surprised with a decline, but it is one of his top choices, so a yes would be really great. So happy this is the last one!! Anyway, just thought I would post this to let people know there should be more decisions coming this week.
@njmamapapa Haven’t called yet. It is definitely worth a try!
Thanks for the update! My son is in the same position. Application was complete at the end of October, and it is also the last school he is waiting to hear from. Anxious to hear soon one way or the other so that we can move forward in whatever direction!
@Rockma To which program did your son apply?
Undeclared. Out of state.
we are out of state too.
