Delaware Class of 2020 Acceptances

Congratulations to your daughter @KimberleesDad! How long had she been waiting, and what is her major?

@Chocohol app was submitted Jan’ 16th, and CS is her major.

@Kimberlees Dad Congrats to your daughter!

Does anyone have information or advice - my son was admitted but not to the major he applied to but University Studies. Is it difficult to get into your desired major from undeclared? Also we have received the financial aid and merit information in a nice bifold but have never received a “yellow” acceptance package that others mentioned. Is there important information in that - we visit next week and I can ask then but trying to sort it all out ahead of time

My understanding from our visit was that some majors are difficult if not impossible to switch into such as business. My son applied for CS, has still not heard but were told at the time that it may not be as difficult to switch into from University Studies. At this point he has very nice merit aid from Denison and thinking smaller may be better choice for him. Delaware told students “apply right away in Sept!! We read applications as they come and send word within 12 weeks.” Not so Delaware.

Thanks @firstborn. I will definitely look at this more closely then. Computer Engineering is my son’s desired major. Yea my son’s app was in mid Oct all materials complete by Oct 24 and we did not hear until Feb 15. So over 15 weeks

mmsharp:
Computer Engineering is not listed as a “restricted major”, which is different than most of the other specific Engineering majors at UD. Perhaps this means it would be easier to transfer into as compared to the others. I would inquire about this when you visit. Also I would recommend that when your son goes to NSO (New Student Orientation) that he let his advisor know about his interest in becoming a Computer Engineering major. This would allow for his freshman schedule to include courses that would best prepare him to do this in the future.

@mwallenmd - thanks so much. Your exactly right and your information is correct and helpful. I emailed the Comp Eng department to get advice and that is what they told me. After Fall semester if he was able to get some of the courses in that curriculum he can change majors immediately after that. And we should make that known at orientation. It did sound like it would be much harder for some other majors. She mentioned Comp Sci requires at least a 3.2 and 3.5 would be better in order to change and that it was restricted. So I can see this could be a problem for some majors.

For my financial award, it was listed that I was awarded the UD Presidential Scholarship for my merit ($8000/year), but I was only given $2000/year through this scholarship. I am eligible for the Presidential Scholarship through my academic stats, as well. Should I contact the office, or is there a reason for this?

Disregard my last post, I realized the amount differed between out-of-state and in-state.

@mmsharp this is helpful for my DS, too. He was considering changing to either Computer Engineering or Computer Science. Good to know one is restricted and the other isn’t.

@acme - there is definitely information on the UD website about all the majors and which are restricted. I would definitely check it out and bring it up at accepted student day or email admissions or the dept area for your DS’ desired major to be sure you understand what is possible  I started here and worked my way in - http://www.udel.edu/admissions/majorfinder/index.html. You can select CIS and find email information. Also here is a link to the restricted major stuff http://www.udel.edu/registrar/students/restmajorsinfo.html

@mmsharp He requested a change of major and has been offered a couple of options, but CIS was not one of them. Now I know why. thanks again.

I have been lurking here for a while now and feel it is time to comment. First, congratulalations to those who have been accepted! UDel is my D’s number one choice. All her application materials were complete as of 11/14/15 as per the portal, and she has applied to the nursing program. She is OOS, visited twice, and had an admission interview. I must say, out of all the schools we visited, UDel is the only school we both loved. Problem is she has yet to receive a decision. The portal still has checked that everything has been received. She has called and emailed only to be told that nursing decisions take longer. We are now at 16 weeks. I have read every post here and there are some who submitted later, and have received decisions for nursing. I don’t get it. I totally understand that all nursing programs are selective and competitive, but can anyone give me an idea of what this all means, and when she will receive a decision?? Any input is greatly appreciated.

@muntzfab4 - I don’t know if it means anything. I know we went through this for Penn State and were so frustrated at how long it took and how random it all seemed. We waited over 15 weeks for the UD decision btw. What are her stats like? It could just be there are a lot of applications. Hang it there it can’t be much longer. We are also still waiting on VTech so some schools haven’t even given the majority of their decision yet. I have have read other posts on UD that there are no benefits regarding housing etc for accepting early so while it is frustrating you won’t miss out.

@muntzfab4 just wanted to mention that we are also waiting just as long to hear from the business school. I called twice and just recently 2 days ago I was told the next group of decisions will be out the last week of March for April 1st mailings. not sure if same is for nursing program. We have heard from all other schools over a month ago, OOS & a sibling currently enrolled. Good luck!

@njmamapapa You were told that by admissions about the business school decisions? Or did they mean in general?

@muntzfab4 We are still waiting for Engineering. We are now ready to start week 17!!! Totally ridiculous!

@Chocohol admissions office told me additional notifications would be forthcoming end of March. Spring break is next week for UDEL so unless admissions is open and working it really doesn’t look too promising to hear anytime soon. Totally ridiculous is right!!

Pathetic to think one of the first applications submitted will be the last we hear from. Every other school applied to gets many more applications than UDel does!
