We are presently in Costa Rica for an 8 day family vacation without our luggage. Yes, I know we should have had a change of clothes in our carryon but didn’t. We were originally flying out of Boston yesterday and arriving in Costa Rica at 1:30 but instead ended up flying on a different airline and arriving late last night. Our luggage was supposed to be here by 12 but isn’t here yet. Any advice on how much we can spend and get reimbursed? Not sure when it will show up.
https://www.transportation.gov/lost-delayed-or-damaged-baggage Airlines are required to compensate passengers for reasonable, verifiable, and actual incidental expenses that they may incur while their bags are delayed - subject to the maximum liability limits. Domestic is $3500, International $1500
Do you have any credit cards that cover delays such as Citi Prestige or Chase Sapphire?
check your credit card coverage…
We used frequent flier points for the tickets. No credit cards involved. I am assuming we can’t use any credit card benefits as a result, right?
What did you pay the fees with? Usually there is at least a small fee. Check that credit card.
No advice but another good reason to wear microfiber underwear…
Friend went on sailing trip—whole week no luggage. Picked it up at gate on return.
Yup, it happened to us once.
Another reason why many airline passengers want to carry-on everything (or as much as they can), increasing competition for carry-on bin space.
