Dell Inspiron 11z

In two months I begin studying in US, so I am looking around trying to find a suitable laptop. I was searching for a decent combination of power and portability. Then I found Inspiron 11z. I plan to upgrade it to 4GB RAM, perhaps I’ll also pick better processor, when I order. Also, my school has a deal with Dell, thanks to which I will get a $175 discount.

However, I do have several doubts. First of all, the 6-cell battery is said to stick out (http://thinklaptops.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/dell-inspiron-11z.jpg</a>). I’m afraid it would make it tougher to use it while it is on my laps, for example.
Another thing - I have heard different opinions about quality of Dell’s products. I plan to upgrade it, so it would serve me well now, but also in 3 or 4 years. After reading some negative opinions about Dell in general, I am not sure it will last that long. So perhaps it would make more sense not to upgrade it?

Has any of you had any experience with Inspiron 11z? What did you thing? Oh, and are there any other good laptops with ~~ 12" screens?

Many students recommend a 13’’ or higher because you’ll be using your laptop for like 4 years. Your eyes might get tired and your hands might get cramped.
