Democratic Debates

I watch the debates on both sides for entertainment value. Webb came across as very disagreeable. Chaffee’s attempt at being hard-nosed was kind of funny. O’Malley was too clearly auditioning for the VP slot. Sanders is like your uncle or grandpa at the Thanksgiving table…gotta love his continued passion at his age. (I’ve lived so long in a state dominated by the other party that I’m worn down. Not Grandpa Sanders.)

It’s also essential follow along on Twitter. I enjoyed Luke Russert’s tweets during the debate.

I personally can’t stand Clinton. She tries too hard to be “professional”, and it ends up being awkward to watch her speak. There’s a phoniness element to her that really irritates me…

Sanders, on the other hand, did a good job IMO, but his plans on a nationalized $15 minimum wage seem unrealistic. I like his dynamic, non-conformist viewpoints though… he doesn’t just take hard sides based on his political label. For example, his gun control views were surprisingly mixed. He acknowledged the fact that guns are part of rural culture and that urban people shouldn’t dictate laws for everyone. I like that (even though I support gun control).

All things considered, I think Sanders came away as the most compelling candidate.

Republican commentator Ana Navarro has “debate envy.”

“…I was very impressed by the debate…a very engaging, substantial debate, really it’s amazing how many serious national policy issues you can get to when you’re not wasting time on a debate stage talking about Rosie O’Donnell.”
