I have a problem and I thought maybe you guys could give me some advice. Well, my aunt wants me to apply for the Democratic womens club scholarship (worth 1,200). She’s been working for years with the club, and really wants me to apply. But I want to be a republican senator when I get older. I’m taking AP government and have finally found out that I definitely side with the republicans. However, if I take the scholarship I must register Democrat. My question is: If I take the scholarship and then switch to Republican a year or two later, will this jeopardize my career as a senator? Or a career in politics at all, not necessarily a senator. I know it sounds silly, but I just want to be careful. Politics is getting messy nowadays. I know politicians bring up Giuliani’s career and how he switched from a democrat to a republican.

Go on, apply! Maybe you’ll see the light and become a Democrat instead:) Seriously- this will not come back to haunt you. Being a former democrat is definitely not what did Giuliani in.

bump…anybody else?

If you don’t agree with Democratic principles, you shouldn’t take the scholarship. It would be immoral to do so, something I’d hope a future senator would be more concerned about than a measly $1200. If you compromise yourself for this now, how much would you be willing to compromise yourself for later? And, the attempt to buy politicians is a daily occuring activity. Take the right stand now, and you’ll be less tempted to do so in the future.

I agree. It’s hypocritical to accept money from a group if you don’t even believe in what they stand for. If you comprimise your morals know, what do you think you’ll be like when you get older? $1200 today, who knows for how much you’ll sell forself for in the future?
