demographics

what are the demographics of the group that starbucks is primarily marketed towards?

for example, i know lately mcdonalds has been attempting to market their food towards young, hip, urban people between the ages of, let’s say, 16 and 25, as is evidenced from their commercials and their new slogan “im lovin it.”

Probably the same age group, but they have the ability to appeal to older professionals as well. The idea is, addict them while their young and you’ll have a steady customer for 50 years.

Starbucks is aimed at the upper and/or upper-middle classes, the people who can afford and are willing to spend $5 on a cup of coffee.

People who also place a higher value on name-brand things also tend to prefer Starbucks to your generic 7-11 brand. A Starbucks cup can be just as much a status symbol as a Prada bag.

Edit: Because of the extremely high caffeine level of their coffee, Starbucks also appeals to high school and college aged students who stay up half the night then have a 7:30 class.

starbucks caters to people who like more cream and sugar than coffee in their drink :/

All I know is there are 5 Starbucks within a block radius of Times Square, and all of them are packed with people all the time.

My office is near 116th & Broadway, there is a Starbucks on 115th & Broadway but the nearest Dunkin’ Donuts is over on 125th & Amsterdam. :(

116th & Bway, huh? You must work at Columbia.

ha yah i noticed that in times square. i went to one, it was jam packed, no place to sit and barely any to stand. there were broadway actors practicing their lines in there.

Yes I do. Working for CUIT for the summer.

Incidentally, did you pick your name after that new weirdly named dance called the Chicken Noodle Soup which originated in Harlem, only a few blocks away from Columbia?

Nope. It’s just a random username that I use in lots of places so I don’t have to remember them all. ;)
