In the live event with Jeff Selingo last night, he wrote, “…the check box for considers demonstrated interest. Lots of schools don’t check it that I KNOW consider demonstrated interest.”
I was not available at that time so couldn’t follow up, but does anyone have thoughts on which schools or types of schools this might include? It didn’t occur to me that CDS might not be accurate but want to keep this in mind as my youngest begins to create her college list.
I didn’t listen last night, so don’t know which schools Jeff Selingo was talking about. IME Selingo is good about answering emails, so if you contact him, I think there’s a good chance he engages with you. I will chime in with one example based on my experience…Cornell (some schools, don’t @ me peeps
) considers DI, but the CDS says they don’t.
CDSs are often not accurate. Many admissions departments are not involved with filling them out. CDSs are not required and are not checked by any group/authority, so take everything on that report with a grain of salt. Your student can ask their admissions officer if demonstrated interest is part of the admission decision.

I think it’s safe to assume that all private schools consider demonstrated interest in some way. Make sure that if you do a tour or virtual tour, whatever email you use to register your student for the tour is the same one they will use to submit the common app for that school. Same for any contact with an AO or request for info from the college. Be consistent with the email address you use.

Thanks for the feedback. I fully understand the DI game, as D23 attends a college that is very open about considering it, but I truly didn’t realize that the CDSs aren’t always accurate! Lesson learned for the third kid!
