Demonstrated interest

My ds has only recently decided to look at A&M. He’s spoken to our local recruiter three times now, including at a conference yesterday where I was present.

In talking to her, I was struck by how often she made a point of saying “If you go to this program, you can check it off on your application.” Some of this is alluded to in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/texas-m-university/680273-anyone-out-there-academic-admits-2.html

I came home from that conference yesterday and looked up the A&M Common Data Set to see how the school ranks level of interest, but there wasn’t an indication on the CDS, at least the two I looked at.

Anyway, I see so many people on here who really want to go to A&M, and I want to make sure they you realize that showing interest seems to be a big tip for A&M. The recruiter didn’t seem to have an opinion of what kind of day is better to attend (SHIP, overnight with the Corps), but just getting on campus seemed important.

On the A&M specific section of the Texas Ap, there is a place to check contacts with A&M. It includes various events and a place for writing down “other” contacts not on the list. IIRC, UT does not ask.

There is a place on the Texas Common application - University specific form of A&M to check off the things you have attended. I’ll see if I can copy and paste it in.
There are lots of things on the list - and yes, it is important to A&M if you are interested enough in them - they will be interested in you.

This is the list from the 2009 application - info specific to A&M - It is a required question, so if you havent done anything, you have to check the none box.

Thanks for posting that, kl. We’re hoping that ds is an academic admit, though he’s flirting with the ranking criteria. If he’s not an academic admit, he’s going to have to find some way to demonstrate interest in the next few months. We were planning a campus visit this summer. Will now make it a priority.
