Stanford…haha! But I was pretty much in love with both Wellesley and Barnard/Columbia too.

Dang, I never cry, but…

I’ve been bummed about getting rejected from schools (I got into UCD, UCSC, UCR, Univ of Wisc Madison, and Tulane, I got waitlisted at BU and I was rejected from GW, UCSD, and UCSB…and I have yet to hear from Vassar, USC, and NYU…but I already know I didn’t get in)

…then I was thinking about it, and the only reason I’d go to Vassar, USC, or NYU is because of the name…they arent that prestigious, but they’re well known. In all honesty, I think Wisconsin is the best match for me and I would probably be happiest there. It sucks to get rejected cause you do feel like you aren’t good enough, but life moves on and you might not even like those schools anyways (you might not fit in). It really does feel like getting into colleges is a defining moment in a young person’s life, but it isn’t. Just because you didn’t get into that school doesn’t mean you will not succeed in life.

To Pris- I would suggest that you stick it out for a while at Ohio State and if you can’t stand it then go ahead and reapply, but you might really like it? either way, good luck with all of that!

Have you got in anywhere so far Punkie?

Thanks cbo. I think I might just have to.

No where. I’m collegeless.

=/

I’m going to try to send updates to the college that rejected me even though it was my first choice. [shrugs] xD I’m never going to give up, huh?

[shrugs]

Are you going to send anything to Wellesley? =]

i must say…i didn’t expect to be so devestated…but i’m really crushed by rejection from Brown (and 3 other schools).

it’s amazing how many of my friends got rejected from their top choices.

Mohuohu, what are the other schools? By the way, did you get accepted to anywhere yet? =] Also, HI! =]]]

Rejected from Brown, Princeton (1st choice), Harvard, and Columbia. I was kind of expecting it, but kind of not, since other students at our school similarly matched to me (but slightly lower) in extracurriculars/academics/essay/etc. got in.

Life’s like a box of chocolates, I guess.

(The path I’ve chosen to take: in-state and prep for a better graduate school)

Box of chocolates?

I think my life is more like a rollercoaster ride.

=[ I’m sorry you didn’t get into your first choice.

Punkie, you and I need to talk. Hang on, I’m PMing you. =)

Son was rejected by Duke yesterday. Yale, UPenn, Columbia and UChicago today. He is feeling kind of low.

But he has been accepted by GaTech and UGA(guess where we live), U of Colorado - Boulder, U of Minn Twin Cities and U of Iowa. He has lots of choices.

Good kid, good future.

Pris89, ok. xD PM me with your best shot! [blasts the 80’s music] xD

When my D was rejected ED from Northwestern, she “had herself a pity party” for a day or two, then picked herself up and moved forward. (She also found solace in comforting friends whose ED rejections and deferrals came 3 days later). It was her dream school, and she says it still hurts, but you will survive, as has she.

An earlier poster had it right when he/she said it isn’t the school that matters-- it’s your skills and traits that got you where you are and propelled you even apply to these top tier schools. It is those skills that will lead to success in your college, and once you are out of school people will not emphasize where you went to college as they focus on how you are doing in your job and career.

Penn did a study that showed that those who were Ivy capable-- even if they didn’t apply or were rejected-- and you all are Ivy capable – were as successful as their Ivy peers. Actually, they earned 1% more than the Ivy’s – not statistically significant, but it enforces the point.

So go cry in your favorite non-alcoholic beverage, you have the right to feel miserable for a few hours. Then, look at your options and pick your best fit. Good luck to you all! You WILL do great!

I applied to Cornell, Berkeley, Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Duke, and Berkeley, and got rejected…from all of them…I literally have no where to go now

Stop it. Maybe you didn’t make wise choices in picking the schools you applied to? It does not mean you are mediocre in any way, shape or form. You want to succeed? Then go to the best school that accepted you that you can afford, and work your tail off, and plan for a great career or graduate school.

Revenge is the best medicine - prove to yourself that these schools made a mistake not accepting you and work hard to do so.

And good luck - many, many successful people I know went to “mediocre” colleges or didn’t finish college at all!

colleges are so tough to get into. i got rejected from Brown, Columbia, Berkeley. Waitlisted for Collge of WIlliam and Mary and Dartmouth. Accepted to UCLA, VirginiaTech, UC Davis. I’m still waiting on UVa, and i do hope i get in. it’s my number 1 choice =</p>

my situation is so different from everyone else’s. i don’t even know if i am instate ANYWHERe. my dad pays california taxes, so it makes me out of state for virginia. but he UC requirements say that i need to live in California for a year prior to the start of the first semester…so complicated…i really need to give them a call. maybe thats why i got rejected from Berkeley. also, davis is charging me 40k a year…thats WAY too much for in state tuition.

Rejected by Duke yesterday. Harvard and Berkeley today. Still waiting for two more… kind of down…

Well, today was not the day that I hoped it would be. I was rejected by Yale and Princeton (double legacy! not even a pity waitlisting!), and waitlisted by Brown and Columbia. It wasn’t that any one decision was so tough, but taken together, I was surprised and pretty saddened that I did not receive even one offer of admission, which I foolishly believed I was about 99% likely to get (and hey, maybe I was–that cruel, cruel 1%!).

However, this is not my first experience with rejection, and though there was a half an hour or so that I was feeling pretty down during, I’m already okay with what has happened. I’m already holding 4 acceptances, including NYU, Carleton, and Wellesley, and I still have one school left (BC). My very sweet father brought me the biggest bouquet of flowers that he could find, as well as a very funny condolence card, and he gave me some good advice that I think we all could take some solace in (and remember, this is from a person who got what many of us wanted: the Ivy League education):

1) People who love to learn, whether they go to Princeton or to their respective state school, will learn 10 times as much in their lives out of college as they did in college–as AdvisorMom said, it’s the person and not the college that determines how happy/successful they end up being.

2) As much as my father loves Princeton and would have liked for me to be able to go there, he has repeatedly said what we all know: admissions is a total crapshoot. Perhaps obvious, but worth repeating: nearly 40 years ago, when my parents applied to college, there were basically the same number of spots at the top colleges–and a half or even a third as many people in the country. With the stats that he had back then, my father probably wouldn’t have gotten into Princeton today either.

3) Finally, my father assures me that were he to apply to college again, knowing what he knows now, he would really have to think about where he would truly be the happiest–he would NOT automatically choose Princeton over Carleton (or Wellesley, were that an option for him! :)). Not that he thinks I couldn’t handle it, but he knows that the climate at Princeton, Yale, etc. is very competitive–perhaps detrimentally so. There is no perfect school.

Most of us will be happy wherever we end up next year–and even for those in more dire straits, life will still go on. Good Luck to all!!!

Please get some perspective here - you got rejected from one of the top schools in the country, which rejects 88% of its applicants. For all you know, they might have had a monkey throw darts at the applications to pick their admitted students, you are all so talented and hardworking!

Wanting to die is being sent back to Iraq for the 3rd time, not being rejected from Columbia. You will go to a great school, have a great time, and be a real asset to any college community - look forward, to your very lucky, very bright future!

My son is only a junior, and he is planning on applying to Bates, Colby, Bowdoin, Wesleyan and Conn college (his first choice) and as a “safety”, Geneseo. Go look at the Geneseo board - LOTS of very qualified applicants were rejected this year, as they got a record number of applicants, and they accepted LESS than many of the most selective LACs in the country. Kids with a 1380 old SAT and 92 averages were rejected - so congratulations at getting into one of the most selective schools around!!

Students are incredibly happy there, look at the pie graph compared to most other schools - it is better here than most schools.

Don’t give up - you might be very, very happy at Geneseo!

The problem is that I don’t have any acceptances…
