Denied Financial Aid

In reality it’s all about the money. My daughter just got accepted but FA waitlisted. We definitely qualified for financial aid. Our need was about 25k. I’m surprised the school did not offer something. As parents we all have the choice to pay for private school or send our kids public school. Yes. I’m really proud my child achieved acceptance. But it’s like the big beautiful house I see; nice but can’t afford it. Attending these private schools is a privelidge not a right. My daughter and I had a frank talk about this and I asked her how she feels about the fact that it’s great she got accepted when many other kids she knew got turned down or waitlisted for different schools but the reality was that they were not willing to offer her any financial help of any kind even though they knew she needed it. I asked her to think about how much more worth it it really was . Yes, the buildings were nice and yes, the teachers were great but when it comes to getting accepted at a college of her choice the gap between expensive prep schools and public schools has narrowed. School is what you make of it. She’s really smart and an excellent student and now thinking in a practical way she is actually cooling off the idea of the expensive private school.
