I just wear levi 501s or Jcrew matchstick. I have tried on higher end jeans but since my Old Navy jeans ( that were hand me ups from my D2) or my Lucky jeans aren’t worn out, I don’t have a lot of motivation to pay twice as much.
( although when I have spare time, I may try on the David Kahn jeans after several ringing endorsements from BunsenBurner)

Yesterday, my D2 was complaining she only had two pairs of jeans & the ones she was wearing had a hold in the knee, so she wanted to go to NR and get some more. I told her I would buy her a couple pair- I was thinking * Nordstrom Rack? they will be $30 or $40*.

Apparently not- She went right for the 7 for all mankind jeans that were $100, marked down from $170. But they didn’t have the style she wanted & when she saw me balking at the price, decided she could wait.
I blame it on Macy’s where she clerked in the high end dept., for giving her expensive taste.
Of course if I could find jeans that made me at 5’2" and roundish look like her at 5’8" and slender, I would probably pay twice as much.

Any jean experts know jeans that fit like 7 denim, without the price tag?

Your d has 2 pairs of jeans, one with a big hole.
She is not a clothes hog.
I’d buy the one name brand pair she likes for $100 and will wear to death.
Having 2 pair of jeans she doesn’t like or will wear is a bigger waste of money.
IMHO.

I do know that ‘the kids’ probably want those name brand jeans.
Although I remember that getting a pair of Levi’s as a teen was a treat instead of the
sears/penney store name ones.

I have no advice on the high end jean thing…I am so happy I found a style of Lee’s at Kohls that look OK ish on my 5’8" not slender body. NOw I just reorder a pair or two online using the style number…and pay maybe $40 pair.
It is good to be old and not care about some stuff.

I am grateful too for LandsEnd tankini swimsuits…I can order them online and they fit and make me look not awful. Yes, a low bar, I know.

I agree but the $100 pair wasn’t the style she usually wears, it was just the brand- so I think she should wait till she can find the brand & the style. I also didn’t have $100 to spend on this particular trip- we just paid for her next qtr tuition. ( plus a new roof)

I think her statement she only has two pair of jeans was a bit of underestimating.
( I’ve seen her closet) ;)

Until she started working at Macys, she got virtually all her clothes from thrift stores, but as she doesn’t have a car or much time anymore, she has to go shopping when & where she can I suppose.
She did get a cute coat for $50 online, although I would have spent 4x as much to get something that was more suited to her winters.

Yesterday I noticed a facebook ad for the online Levi store. I checked it out, and discovered that they had a “fit calculator” that SEEMS to be able to pick a cut and length that will suit my hard-to-fit straight up and down lower half: no thighs, no hips, no waist, short legs. Women’s pants that fit my waist often look like they belong to The Little Dutch Boy everywhere else. I ordered two pairs. We’ll see.

Check Marshalls and TJMaxx. Have her try on jeans. My DD got 7 jeans she LOVES there for all of $30. I also got her two pair at Goodwill…$9.99 each. She was thrilled.

I personally wear Bandolinoblue Jeans. I love them and they fit well. I have a pair of blue from Marshalls that were $29.99 (which is a LOT for me to spend on a garment!), and a second pair from Macys…black…that were marked the same on sale last year, but came up $8 at the checkout. I look for this brand every time I shop…on sale of course!

For several years, I took my daughter to the after-Christmas sales at Nordstrom and had her try on every single pair of jeans in her size. AFTER doing that, we’d look at the price tags of the ones that fit her well. Then we’d consider buying the top two or three, depending on the total price. I remember one year, the prices of the top three were $90, $20, and $45. Price had nothing to do with style or fit.

thumper, YES! those Bandolinoblue are my jeans find of the last few years. I bought them as they were on sale, and then realized they are some of the best jeans ever. I think the first pair were Boston store, not sure about the others. If not super marked down, I don’t usually buy, but would pay full price for these.

I’m not sure how the 7 jeans fit, but I’m 5’6" and I absolutely love Levi 528s and I couldn’t imagine anything fitting better. Not sure if the brand would be to your daughter’s taste though…

Consolation–
“no thighs, no hips, no waist, short legs”–You stole my body!

Please please report back. I can never find jeans that are comfortable. Ever. Give me a waist or give me hips, but being a woman with neither means always having pants that hurt. Little shrimpy legs don’t help things either…

sryrstress, I will let you know. What we basically have is a boyish figure, at least from the waist down! (I am also a 38C. ) All of those “jeans designed for a woman’s curves” are anathema to me.

Thank doG for knit pants, although many of them don’t fit, either.

I have found two pair of 7 jeans for $4.99 at Goodwill in the last month. Unfortunately, neither was my size. I like Levi’s 505’s (straight leg). Also like Kut from Kloth and Yanuk. Both of those are pricey (to me) but I found them at Goodwill. I’m 5’7" and pear shaped.

Consolation, it is time to befriend a local taylor. All jokes aside, for someone with non-standard figure alterations might be well woth the price - $5 for jeans from Goodwill (or Pluto’s) plus $40 for customization beats trying dozens of $100/pr jeans and still leaving empty-handed. You say you have a boyish figure… Have you tried shopping in the young men’s departments? My sister does.

I hate buying jeans because I have to try on hundreds of pairs before I can find something that fits. I have to find some that have no pockets in back or very unobtrusive pockets. I also prefer petite sizes, but those are also hard to find as I am right at the border of petite and regular, so sometimes petite pants are too short, sometimes just right.

A few days ago I found some called Not Your Mom’s Jeans, or something like that. The dressier denim pair fit great. I liked them because they weren’t low rise and the denim was nice and dark, making them dressier. Price at store was $50.

Not sure how the Levi’s calculator works online, but I went to Levi store with D today and they measured her with this really interesting “measuring tape meets strange flap device” and then told her what her “type” was. She grabbed the leg style she wanted (skinny) and waist (modern) which is lower than “classic” but higher than “low rise” and they fit like a dream. She has always had issues with jeans even though she has a beautiful hour glass figure but she works out and has fierce thighs and crazy butt…lol…making it not as easy as you would think in would be.

The last time I went looking for jeans, I was horrified at the quality of the fabric and the manufacture. But since my jeans are falling apart, and winter is closing in, I’ve got to come up with something. Thanks for the advice about the Levi store. I’ll try there!
