Denison Class of 2028 Official Thread

I assume the grants have to be awarded each year by filing the CSS and FAFSA? Do the grants generally stay stable if there is no financial change in the student’s family? I just worry that next year, the grant won’t be there or could get reduced and we would be in trouble. Anyone have any experience with this?

I don’t know if Denison requires the CSS to be filled out in subsequent years, many schools do not.
Arguably, a grant should increase yearly if finances stay about the same as the cost of attendance increases. That would be the benefit of a grant vs. merit.

We attended the one on March 29. The parent reception the evening before was super nice! Open bar, waitstaff, farm-to-table appetizers - very, very lovely. There was no dress code for the parents, but most had on dressy casual. The kids were whisked away as soon as we checked in, they had a good time on a super casual campus walk a about, they ate dinner and I think saw a comedy show?
There was a big charter bus that I think brought kids and parents in from a nearby hotel.
Friday began with a continental breakfast at the chapel, a short talk by President Weinberg and then some different options (classroom visit, masterclass, campus tours…).
Lunch provided.

Stat provided: 15K applications, overall admission rate between 16-17%, hoping for class size around 600 students.

We were there as well and came away very impressed. My daughter also really enjoyed the class she attended. It was a well done program.

Hey queen!

Were students dressed up? I’m having the small crisis of deciding what to wear :joy: Supposed to have some bad weather this Friday when I go

Kids were in athletic wear or jeans - typical teen attire. Kids went another direction as soon as we walked into the athletic building. Lots of moms in nice jeans and a top or something likewise casual with flats. No one in anything looking like party attire, casual yet put together if that seems to make sense. Men had on jeans or casual khakis.
@austinnnnn forgot to make this a reply. I just saw the weather for end of week. Yikes.

Thank you so much!! Super helpful response.

I know, I saw that earlier this week and I was just like :unamused: I’m genuinely a person that would wear athletic shorts year round if I could. “Frozen Mix” does not sound like athletic shorts weather.:rofl: Probably going to opt for khakis and a short sleeve button up with a puffy jacket.

Thank you again!! <3

Thanks for posting this. I had a number of these questions that you answered. We are visiting on the 14th and 15th of April. My son was accepted and it is his first choice.

What were your impressions of visit?

There was a recent article with some Denison class of 2028 stats. The article for the class of 2027 shared more information, like the number of ED applicants, which was not included in this story.

No one asked me my opinion, but I would be very interested to see the number of international applicants to Denison. As Denison is known for a more friendly FA policy for international students, does this cause thousands of kids to apply?

Today announced a new food vendor for Denison:

Dear Denison students, faculty, and staff,

After an extensive dining services evaluation process that included representatives from across the community, including students, faculty, and staff, we are excited to announce that Harvest Table Culinary Group has been selected as our new hospitality partner, effective July 1, 2024.

The community was very impressed with the alignment of Denison and Harvest Table’s vision, mission, and values, as well as proposed improvements to our food offerings and on-campus residential and retail restaurants. We will be working with Harvest Table over the spring and summer to finalize details and prepare for an introduction of the new offering by the beginning of the fall semester.

As we prepare for this transition, we want to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to Bon Appetit, which has provided great service to Denison since 2013. Bon Appetit’s management team and employees have been wonderful partners over the years. Harvest Table would like to retain as many dining employees who wish to join their team as possible. The Harvest Table team will be hosting events for current employees to ensure a smooth and welcoming transition.

A bit about what you can expect:

Harvest Table at Denison – By Students, For Students
Harvest Table will be creating new and exciting dining experiences across campus, as well as a thoughtful and elevated catering program. They will embrace and celebrate campus traditions and collaborate across campus to bring Denisonian events to life. The Harvest Table culinary team focuses on chef-driven menus made from local, responsibly sourced, and wholesome ingredients. These authentic ingredients are transformed into made from scratch, delicious meals that provide opportunities for exciting experiential and health-forward learning to encourage students to eat and live well.

When students arrive on campus next fall, they will begin to experience enhancements to the quality and accessibility of the food, residential and retail updates, technology like Grubhub, and more late-night options, all of which will continue to evolve over the coming months. Ongoing seasonal menu development will be based on feedback and emerging trends rooted in health and wellbeing. Led by a guest experience manager, the team will also create an enriched student and community experience with exciting and immersive events, including monthly farm-to-table dinners, Week of Welcome events, and fun and educational pop-ups.

Clear and easily accessible digital menus will provide all guests with full transparency into all nutritional and allergen information. A dedicated allergen-friendly program will offer fresh-made recipes made without the top nine allergens. New offerings will give athletes and all students better access and information to ingredients that drive health and performance. A mobile-friendly dining website will filter menu information based on dietary preferences. The campus community will also have an on-site registered dietitian who will introduce a wide range of services and programs.

Students have a leading voice at Harvest Table through many feedback avenues. Their National Student Board of Directors helps lead the evolution of the Harvest Table brand and mission to build a more equitable food system. Look for more information this fall, if you are interested in becoming the Denison representative.

Super excited for this! My son isn’t really picky and will eat pretty much anything, but I’m happy about this change. It sounds great for the kids!

I had an admissions officer call, text, and email me today asking to discuss my waitlist status what does this mean?

my take is that schools are starting to get a better view on what their yield looks like and may be starting to try to understand who on the waitlist might be a likely commit if offered admission. Let us know what they say!

Sounds like they may want to offer you a spot on the waitlist! Did you talk to them?

My son has been Admitted off the waitlist! We are so happy!
