Do people use consultants to help read over/edit these essays? All I hear is “make it personal”. I’m so overwhelmed b/c I don’t want to sound elementary. Any resources would be helpful. Thank you!
Hi there- dentist here- although it’s been quite some time since my dental school applications but I thought I would chime in because no one else has replied.
I don’t think the essays are the most critical part of your application- your academic transcript is much more important. At least from my experience, the interview was more important than it was for undergrad. I’ve never heard of anyone using professional counseling services for dental school applications, although in today’s world I’m sure there must be someone who has.
While I don’t think you should lose sleep over any essays, I do think you should put some organized effort into them. The dental school is just trying to get a sense of who you are, why you are interested in dentistry, and make sure that you can communicate effectively. Having a colleague look over your essays are a great idea. DM me if you have any other questions and good luck!
