Due to illness my mom has lost most of her teeth. About two years ago, she had full dentures made but the bottom plate never seemed to fit correctly and they could not fix it. Her dentist is recommending removal of all her few remaining teeth, to avoid infection and replacing the dentures. Her insurance will not pay for another set for another year or so. Further, it seems that it takes a good five months to finally get the dentures in place. Removal of teeth, healing one month and then measurements, sending them out, fittings, etc. In short, she will have nothing to chew her food with for about 5-6 months. I find this unacceptable.

My brother and I are willing to help her pay out of pocket for a new set so that she would not have to wait a year. However, we fear that: it will not be done correctly again, that she might need implants to anchor the bottom plate and that the time frame involved is just too long. I have been researching this and found that there are Denturists in Canada that can do this work over a weekend for a lower cost than in the U.S. Has anyone ever heard of this or know someone who has gone to get work done in Canada. I am just wondering if this could be a good alternative or if I should stay away.
