I recently registered for classes at UT Austin at orientation and am now regretting my decision. I do not mind paying any fines, but I really feel the need to go to UH. I can’t leave my family. I have not yet denied UH and was wondering if it was still possible to go there. Please help.
Yes, it’s doable. Have you deposited at both schools? Are you sure that UH will still admit you if you haven’t paid a deposit? Do not withdraw from UT Austin until you confirm 100% that you can still enroll at UH. You will lose whatever money you have paid at Austin. As soon as UH confirms, immediately inform Austin of your decision. If you have not paid a deposit at UH, you might be out of luck. You must call UH first thing on Tuesday morning.
When you do withdraw from UT Austin, make certain that you are absolutely, completely withdrawn, and that all accounts are closed there. They will have a process for this. But you must be certain that everything is closed so that you aren’t billed for costs for this semester. If you have paid a housing deposit, you will lose that. If you paid a registration deposit, you will probably lose that as well. You should not have any other bills in addition to those two things. If you do, ask for clarification about them.
