<p>I had forgotten that the deposit we paid four years ago would be refunded after graduation.
The check arrived today, made out to my daughter. Since I paid the deposit, and since her birthday is coming up soon, I stuck the check in her birthday card…without another gift from mom.</p>
<p>I don’t remember getting a deposit back :(.
But one fun thing older Ds school did was keep the old admission essays, and before the students graduated, they held a dinner and gave them back to them.</p>
<p>I thought the deposit went toward the first semester tuition? We didn’t get any money back.</p>
<p>Room has to be in certain condition to get a deposit back. There should have been the list that they had to go thru to make sure that deposit is refundable. One of them I remeber clearly is diameter of the holes in the walls. Actually, in dorms, holes were not allowed at all and they had to use special hangers. Stuff like this…</p>
<p>She hadn’t lived in a dorm for two years. It is school’s policy to return the deposit after graduation for all students.</p>
<p>^It must be very different form school to school. So, you better check the policy with your school.</p>
<p>After Son’s first year of college, we withdrew him under a medical LOA. The school never contacted us again. But about 18 months later, we received a check from the school - the refund of some deposit. That was about the saddest I’ve ever been to receive a check.</p>
