Derek Jeter day

Spending my beautiful sunny Sunday watching HOURS of tv coverage commemorating the NY Yankees shortstop.

Won’t be the same without him next year. His stats have declined of late of course.
But what a force he was for the Yankees for sooooo many years.
I started watching with our 10 year old son in 1996 and we still bond over baseball.

Thank you Derek!

He is such a class act

I remember watching him while he was in the minors. You could tell he was in another league even then. In addition to his baseball skills he was quite popular with the young ladies. They were cat calling him the entire game. I can still hear them chanting “Knit one Purl two, Hey Jeter…YooooooHoooooo”

We once watched a game where his Yankee farm team was playing against the Red Sox farm team with Nomar Garciaparra. That was fun to watch! I can’t believe I have watched him through his entire playing career.

Red Sox fan here who thinks Jeter is a great player. Looking forward to the last home game at Fenway (against the Yankees)–there will be a tribute to Jeter that day.

I like that I knew (from the dopey tabloids) he was dating one amazing women after another but he managed to dodge major controversy and be all about the baseball. Ok, well maybe also about his turn2 foundation. I’ll allow that. :)

Very dull interviews but very exciting on the field.

Sure wish the Yankees could have won the game today.

Last home game at Fenway? I look forward to that!

Another improbable storybook moment for jeter’s memory book last night in his final home game.
Who knew that Robertson blowing the save in the ninth would set up jeter’s game winning, walk off single?

He’s said that was his last game at short so I’ll have to watch him DH in Boston…

He really brought it last night! What a way to go out.

His hit last night will be viewed just like Ted Williams’ home run in his last at bat.

This weekend I’ll be rooting for the Red Sox and for Jeter too. Our daughter said to us recently, “I’m going to miss Jeter”, and we hoped she was giving away her dog named Jeter to someone. Alas, the dog stays with us for awhile.

Now my grandson wants a Jeter jersey.

Emblematic hit for Jeter–a single.

My S went to the game last night at Fenway hoping to see him play…no Jeter, and all second string players. It was a warm night and a sold out crowd, so there are worse things to do on a Friday night, but S and his friends were disappointed.
