^ The show reference was just a printed tag on the screen after she won - it wasn’t verbally mentioned.

I was probably throwing my hissy fit and didn’t notice. :)

Brooks is a man. Are we talking about the same person?

D and decided that one of the reasons we love Top Chef and Project Runway is that the contestants win a “prize” not a “show”. Making a show successful is tough. And clearly, not many of these Design Stars have done that.

Still, love to watch Design Star. It’s kind of cheesy - the judges IMO have gotten REALLY cheesy and stiff over the seasons. Genevieve (who I love) seemed to be not very focused in her appearances this year - she’d be there, but not really adding much to the judging it seemed.

If memory serves, Genevieve was once on Trading Spaces. Thinking of the comments about designers needing to consider the wants/needs of the client rather than making it about their own need to showcase their talents (and I agree totally) reminded me of a show where she covered a whole wall (or was it walls?) with moss. The owners hated it (didn’t blame them a bit), and all Genevieve could come up with in response was basically “Well, I’m sorry they didn’t ‘get it,’ but too bad they don’t have any vision.” I thought that was so incredibly arrogant and showed zero concern for making a space wonderful for the people who actually live there day in and day out.

If it was not Genevieve, my apologies to the lady. I usually like her current designs.

She was definitely on Trading Spaces. I remember well how she would often wear cute dresses during the space renovation (really?!) with bare feet and still be climbing up on the tables and everything!

I do love her show Dear Genevieve and would probably choose her to design a space for my home if I were picking a designer - I think her personality is just a little quirky!

I can’t stand Genevieve Gorder.

I agree winning a show and making it successful is tough. I haven’t seen past winners shows lately.

One show I miss is Design on a Dime, just for how tacky it was. Let’s take good quality, but old furniture and put in some homemade craft project crap. Why do “designers” need to always make something?
