Watch very little tv in the summer, but this one is a tradition for my D and I. I swear though, so many years, I am flabbergasted by the judges final pick!

Last night I could not believe the winner they chose - really? Tiffany did not seem to have any big plusses/wins this season, did not IMO have much of a personality, I have no idea what her designer point of view is and I am not drawn to her at all to watch beyond last night!

Brooks while not the best in front of a camera should be hired on the spot to work behind the scenes for HGTV or be featured in an HGTV special - how cool that he came on the show on a “dare” from his design students and made it to the finale. His ideas are truly revolutionary (especially compared to the usual, typical, predictable HGTV stuff…)

Jeribai actually had design AND constructions skills! He could actually do MORE than go shopping, more shopping and fill a room with furniture. He was pleasing to watch and definitely improved in front of the camera - IMO, HGTV NEEDS another male host.

Not sure that any of the winners (besides David B) has gone on to to a lot with this show but I swear so many years I’ve been stunned at the judges picks!

Wow, D and I had completely opposite feelings on this! Brook did some interesting things but he was nuts! And none of his designs ever seemed like they would really work in the real world. And he was so odd that I don’t think I could ever watch him on camera. He was so manic that I can’t imagine his students actually liking him. But I agree that he had something that could draw viewers-maybe he’ll get the online show.

The only designer we consistently liked was Tiffany. Her designs were always pretty, consistent and she;s very watchable. I don’t care for designers who are good but impractical.

Jeribai was good, but I don’t think he had that good an on-camera presence. He could do a show that involves carpentry though-he really did know how to bring a design into existence when it came to building things. I think that one guy from a few years ago Antonio did ok. I don’t even remember the rest of the winners.

We watched the finale also (from our hotel room where we found refuge after our flight was delayed then just outright cancelled. Ugh). We both thought Tiffany was definitely the most watchable, appealing personality. I agree her designs weren’t as creative or revolutionary as the others. However, You can given them design help behind the scenes, but you can’t give them a personality onscreen. I think that’s why she won.

I think they let Anne go because she was “I’m all that and a bag of chips” all the time but she just…wasn’t. If you’re going to brag about how great you are, you’d better be close to perfect.

Of all the contestants, the only one I’d make a point of tracking down to watch would have been Brooks, just because his designs were so out there.

That said, I’m wondering where they put the winners. My TV defaults to HGTV, and all I see offered on there are some version of house hunters and some version of renovate this house type shows. Unless Tiffany can demolish a kitchen, refinish a floor, or show real estate, I’m not sure what they are going to do with her. What ever happened to the lady who could shop that won last year?

^^I agree with the OP. I was also one of the “oh really?” people…although the last couple of winners have seemed blah…and seemed to disappear from the network pretty quickly. I, too, enjoyed Brooks and his "out there"but pulled together sensibilities. Who says every show on HGTV has to be about conventional design or have rooms that look like an Ethan Allen showroom.

I think, though I am not in the TV production world, that for a show about home design, you’d want someone who people would want to invite into their living rooms. I wouldn’t let Brooks in my front door! Like I said, I think he has a place…somewhere. But I don’t think he has star quality at all.

One of the last couple years winners was Danielle - I liked her but saw maybe one show and nothing else of her.

One other recent one was Meg - a red head - like Tiffany, I didn’t get her at ALL! Have seen her on a couple of things but only as a guest spot and not on her own show.

Is he the guy who did the AMAZING metal sculpture in the Esquire Magazine Ultimate Bachelor Pad/The Clock Apartment in Brooklyn? That was pure genius.

I watched, and was just uninspired this season altogether. Usually I watch and drool over how I’m going to do what they did. I did think that Jeribai’s idea of taking an old dresser and transforming it into a kitchen island was actually a great idea. I kind of liked Brook’s quirkiness. I think with coaching he would actually be interesting to watch. There was a winner a few seasons back, Kim Myles - who I just adored. She had a short lived show, Myles of Style. By and large they do seem to fall through the cracks.

Hated Brooks. Agree his Versailles hotel room was horrible. Out of touch with the customers. Only watched a few bits of the season as was not fond of most of the contestants. Vern (a favorite of mine way back when) did point out something about the client. Most designs have been junky with little thought to the user. Could watch Tiffany. Remember the star is to host a show that we would want to watch. Did not think Brooks related to real people at all. HGTV shows are for us, not artists doing their own thing. Hopefully Brooks can be steered to giving us design tips and not just her vision.

I could go on and on- really disappointed in designers who show no practicality. One last point- HATE the concept that books should be stacked in piles to look better visually on shelves instead of being able to be pulled out easily to be read.

Tiffany was the complete package. Her show, Most Embarrassing Rooms, sounds interesting. I was disappointed though in all her fireplace designs. The fake candle fireplace in the finale looked really cheesy and not upscale for a resort suite.

I didn’t see any reference to her new show. Different strokes I guess! I didn’t care much of anything she did (thought her bus was atrocious!) and her personality did nothing for me!
