Okay, so last year I was a freshman and I was deciding between majors… between BioChem, Molecular Bio, BioE, and other similar majors. A few weeks ago (currently a sophomore) I decided to major in BioE… although I haven’t officially declared yet, it’s what my mind is set to do. That was chosen on a basis of the following: it will combine all of my math/science interests, while providing me with a structured set of courses to take as I am indecisive and couldn’t handle choosing a major with less requirements and more leeway in my schedule. Also, I can still take Biochem courses to fulfill some elective requirements for BioE… so it seemed to be the best choice for me. I still to this day do not really know what Bioengineering entails, though. I just also figured that a degree in BioE leaves me pretty well suited for a job after graduation if I ultimately choose the BioE path.

With all of that said (thanks for keeping up with me)… I think I’ve now narrowed my future down to the three occupations listed in the title. I can do BioE… or I can do pharmacy or pre-med. I don’t know too much about the three fields, but I feel they may all suit my love for science and reasoning. Also, since I’ve been so anal about this… I’ve checked and a BioE major does fulfill all course requirements for premed so I need not worry about that. I mean, I love helping people and the idea of further schooling does not deter me at all… in fact I may even be attracted to the idea (this fact also makes me wonder about M.S./PhD options too… further schooling seems to be my calling)… so in that respect premed appeals to me. And pharmacy… I know the least about this option; I just know I enjoy the idea of understanding drugs and what not (hence why at my university I am majoring in BioE under the biopharmaceutical engineering track).

I hope this information makes some sense as I’m pretty sure it’s not totally coherent, but if anyone has ?'s I’d be more than happy to answer as I would love any advice and help back. Time is moving forward and the sooner I can figure this out the sooner I can decide what types of internships and what not to pursue. Thanks : )
