<p>I don’t know if this mess is getting much national play, but it is the all-consuming news here in the Detroit Metro area.</p>
<p>Detroit’s “hip-hop” mayor just keeps digging a bigger hole for himself.</p>
<p>For those of us, myself included, that frequently get upset with the role of the media, I can only say thanks to the Detroit Free Press for uncovering the text messages that show the duplicity of the mayor and his chief of staff in the settlement of the “whistle-blower” lawsuit brought by the two fired police officers.</p>
<p>There was a secret settlement agreement in an attempt to bury the text messages that evidence the perjury of the mayor and his chief of staff. The mayor and the chief of staff claim they signed the settlement agreement in their individual capacities, not as city employees. The City Council that approved the $8.4 million settlement were not apprised of the secret settlement agreement.</p>
<p>The mayor repeatedly states that he will not resign.</p>
