developing ''math sense''

hi guys, i’m having troubles with the math portion of the SAT. i understand all the concepts, but i can’t seem to apply them, esp. at towards the end of the math section. for example, i know all these formulas and rules and stuff, but when confronted with a problem my mind can’t see any possible solutions or devise an equation to solve it. am i being vague right now? i reallllly want to improve my score, any suggestions (books to buy, tips, etc) would be so helpful!!! thanks in advance (:

btw… i am a sophomore. my highest score for math was a 680 :frowning: i would like to improve to a 750 - 800 range by junior year.

also, if you guys have any tips for the writing MC section, that would be amazing…

For Writing MC just get Erica Meltzer’s Ultimate Guide To SAT Grammar, you don’t need anything else

I’m in the same situation as you, but considering you have a 680 your “math sense” isn’t as undeveloped as you might think.

Best is just to practice by doing harder problems that involve more problem solving skill. You could even try some AMC10 problems (note that the last 5-10 problems can be quite challenging).
