Deviation in ACT subscores?

I got a 29 ACT composite, but my science was only a 23. Will colleges look down upon this?

Not a good thing, but if you have a 23 on science with a 29, just get it up.

The “science” section in the ACT doesn’t really test your substantive knowledge of science; it’s more of a test of your ability to interpret graphs and tables quickly and accurately under time pressure—a skill, to be sure, but not one you’re likely ever to be called upon to use much in science or anywhere else in life. For that reason, many colleges may not take the science section of the ACT as seriously as the others. That said, if you got a 29 composite with only a 23 on science, I’d encourage you to re-take after some intensive prep with practice tests to improve your speed and accuracy in the science section. If you can get your science subscore up to a 28 or 29 and maintain your scores on the other sections, you should easily be able to boost your composite to a 30 or 31.
