<p>Are there any other diagnostic tests given at Orientation besides the math one?</p>
<p>Also, any advice as to determine whether or not I should be taking the math test? It’s for an “Intro to Calculus” class, right? I took AP Calc BC last year, so I don’t think I’d need an intro class, but maybe I’m being ignorant?</p>

All students who plan to register for MATH 221 must take the test. We recommend that students who are undecided about MATH 221 should also take the test. In this way, they will know better their preparation level for MATH 221, and if they pass, they will be eligible to enroll; if they fail, they will know that they need to take MATH 108 before enrolling in MATH 221.

I have a score of X on the AP Calculus YZ test. Do I need to take the Screening Test?
<p>If your AP score satisfies the University’s requirements for Math 221 credit then you will be given credit for Math 221 and you may not take Math 221, so you do not need to take the Screening Test. The University policies for AP credit are different for the different schools of the University; here are some details for Harpur College, Watson School and School of Management.</p>
<p>If you do not yet know your AP score then you need to make a decision: Either take the Screening Test during Summer orientation or wait until the end of the Summer, and take the Screening Test only if your AP score does not meet the University’s requirements for Math 221 credit. The advantage to taking the Screening Test during orientation os that you can register for Math 221 if you pass (it is easier to drop a course later than to add one) and you can retake the test at the end of the summer if you fail.

<p>all boils down to the simple question – will you want to take Math 221 – if the answer is yes, you need to take the test. if the answer is no – for whatever reason (your ap score places you out of it, you just don’t want to take more math, etc.), you don’t need to take the test.</p>
