Is anyone else following all the media frenzy regarding Dick Cheney and his supposed exemption from an executive order?

It’s ridiculous what this administration is getting away with.

Is anyone else following all the media frenzy regarding Dick Cheney and his supposed exemption from an executive order?

It’s ridiculous what this administration is getting away with.

No, I’m not following it (I’ve been kinda ignoring the news since school ended… Bad I know :() Could you tell me some about it, or link me to some info?

oh man. this should be the last place that politics come :(

According to Dr. Steven T. Colbert, DFA, Dick Cheney is running the secret shadow government. So, in truth, he really isn’t part of the executive branch.

Yeah. “Dick Cheney” is the 4th branch of government, that they don’t teach to you in Government. Although my gov teacher would’ve. Watchy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NMLjFw3Z2_0

I’m trying to apply nihilism to the current state of affairs. If you ignore it and do not acknowledge George Bush and his cronies exist, they aren’t really there.

And I could’ve SWORN Paris Hilton is so much more important than Dick, eh?

Despite the fact that he is probably one of the funniest men alive, Jon Stewart is NOT a credible source of information; anyone who claims to have developed an “opinion” or is “nihilistic” after being “informed” by a COMEDY show likely doesn’t know the half of it…

I completely agree that The Daily Show is not a credible show, seeing as it runs on comedy central and is shown with the likes of South Park. However, you have to remember that the viewers of the Daily Show are, on average, more informed about politics and government than viewers of other television news sources.

Also, I think the Daily Show is becoming more and more credible as it ages. Jon Stewart seems to edge closer toward credible critiques of politicians and government, perhaps because there are plenty of fake news entertainment sources now.

On another note, I just can’t get over how the Bush Administration is attempting to defend Cheney on this one. Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez just ignored the issue, and the White House spokesperson (I don’t know the lady’s name) tried to skirt the issue by saying that Cheney is just exempt from this specific executive order.

The thing that bugs me most is the fact that this specific administration has been doing stuff like this for 6 years without any serious repercussions. The biggest influence that’s had any serious setback is Scooter Libby. Even to the day of his resignation, Donald Rumsfeld denied that the war was misled or mishandled.

These lies just keep piling up, and the people who are in a position to act are not, especially Congress.

Err, I post a link to Keith Olbermann, who is on MSNBC, which is a legitimate news channel. Olbermann can get a bit humorous sometimes, but he is an actual newscaster. I can only assume you were referring to me because of the quotes “nihilistic”. Which was really just a quip.

The sad thing is that Jon Stewart does a better job at “informing” than most cable/network TV news channels. :(

“And I could’ve SWORN Paris Hilton is so much more important than Dick, eh?”

I wouldn’t necessarily say that Paris Hilton and Dick are mutually exclusive.

marxy^ lol
that’s pretty funny

That’s not nihilism. That’s the thinking of Bishop Berkeley.

Nihilism refers to the world as a whole, not to specific entities that you don’t think about. There are also different forms of nihilism: epistemological nihilism and belief nihilism. Belief nihilists wouldn’t really care either way.

A real belief nihilist wouldn’t care about this - seeing that all beliefs and actions are no morally better than any other.

wow. i wasn’t being serious. goodness.

Here is far more information than most people would ever desire: http://blog.washingtonpost.com/cheney/
I actually read most of it, and it’s kind of interesting…
