The dictionary which I use “Oxford”,Doesn’t have meanings similar to that required by the sat.Can someone suggest A good dictonary for it ??
What do you mean by “doesn’t have meanings similar to that required by the SAT?” The SAT tests vocab via sentence completion, not by naming definitions.
If you mean “doesn’t have many of the words that are on the SAT,” then that’s a different, and unlikely, scenario (unless you are using one of those pocket dictionaries with <10000 words).
What I meant to say was some words: eg.unctuous means ''people or behaviour who express too much praise, interest, friendliness, etc., in a way that is false and unpleasant"in the dictionary, but when I found it in a sentence completion answer it meant “oily or greasy”.these both don’t seem to be much related, right?(when u already have some words more suitable than it to choose)
Ah I see. Some words have multiple unrelated definitions, such as “pedestrian,” but major dictionaries should list them.
Any good, unabridged dictionary should work - avoid “pocket dictionaries” here. You can also look up definitions online.
