Did anyone get off the TRANSFER waitlist in previous years?

AO says “it’s a small, unranked waiting list” and did anyone get off the TRANSFER waitlist in previous years?
And should I writer so-called ‘love letters’ to the admission office?

:(( :(( can anyone give some ideas?

I’m in the same boat. Let me know when you hear back. It should be relatively soon.

@Caravettat I sent my letter of continued interest at the end of May and I haven’t heard back

@RMCFRAUL7 okay, just let me know when you hear back and I will do the same. Hopefully we can give eachother an idea of when we will hear back.

@Caravettat Got an update from Wesleyan this morning!
"On behalf of the Admission Committee, I would like to extend you an offer of admission from the waiting list at Wesleyan! I hope that this is good news for you and that you are interested in joining us here on campus in the fall.

If you are interested in receiving an offer of admission (and you will have time to consider the offer!), please let me know as soon as possible so that we can make your admission letter available via your portal. If you are no longer interested in attending Wesleyan, please let me know right away as well. You will have one week from the date on your admission letter to reply to our offer. "

Does it mean I get off waitlist?

@RMCFRAUL7 Yeah!!! Congratulations!! Did they email you, or did you receive a telephone call? Do you plan on attending? Good luck with everything.

@Caravettat Thanks!! Yes, they e-mailed me and I’m deciding between Wesleyan and U-Michigan (major in Political Science/Government). Do you have some suggestions for me since I have never been to the U.S. and can’t quite understand the difference between liberal arts college and big public university.

@RMCFRAUL7 From what I have been reading online, as far as major goes, U-Michigan is ranked as a better school for political science major to attend. However, as far as the schools go, Wesleyan is much smaller than U-Michigan. If you are looking for a more diverse campus, U-Mich is your place. However, the small liberal arts college like Wes will provide a smaller atmosphere with less people.

@Caravettat Yes, U-Michigan’s political science is definitely one of the best in the U.S. (from us news), but actually it’s graduate school ranking. I’m afraid that Michigan’s undergraduate political science is not that strong and big public schools will always have lots of big classes. Although the faculty is fantastic, I’m afraid professors will only focus on their own research and don’t care about undergraduates. From this perspective, maybe Wesleyan is a better choice?

@RMCFRAUL7 I think regardless of where you choose, the education you are going to receive is going to be excellent. I think it comes down to if you want to be on a large or small campus. Keep me in the loop with what you decide. Again, congratulations!! If you don’t mind me asking, what country are you from?

@RMCFRAUL7 UMich is big public university with heavy Greek life and D1 athletics, whereas Wesleyan is a small liberal arts college that is more intimate and artsy. There is Greek life, but its not as present as it is at Umich. Both are top schools in their own rights.

In terms of political science, Wesleyan is great. Their CSS program combines political science with history and economics, which you might be interested in. Many of their professors have published papers, ane the small liberal arts setting makes them much more accessible to students. It seems like you want a smaller classroom environment and closer relationship with professors, in which case Wesleyan is the way to go.

How is the financial aspect? Are they equal in cost?

@Caravettat Thanks!!! I’m still waiting for Cornell (major: Government), although it seems doomed to be a rejection. I’m from China and majoring in Political Science is very rare in China

@Dontskipthemoose Thanks for your suggestions!! Actually I always see the phrase ‘Greek life’, but I don’t quite understand its meaning as an international student. If possible, could you please explain a little bit more? CSS is great and I also want to major in it, but students need to submit their CSS application at the end of freshmen year. It seems impossible for me to major in CSS since I’ll enter into Wesleyan as a sophomore (I’ll e-mail them to find whether it’s possible). In terms of the tuition fee, I don’t have financial aid as an international student and Wesleyan’s cost of attendance is about 6k higher than Michigan’s annually.

@RMCFRAUL7 Greek life is the system of fraternities and sororities. It depends what type of fraternity, but the common type are social frats, which are basically a big brotherhood of guys. Some philanthropic duties are involved, but fraternities for the most part function as social organizations. You hang out with your bros and throw parties. It is not for everyone and you should research more about Greek life in general.

@RMCFRAUL7 keep me posted with were you choose to attend. Would love to hear!! Good luck with everything!

@Caravettat Sure!

@RMCFRAUL7 any decision yet on where you are going to be attending this fall?

@Caravettat Rejected by Cornell CAS last week and decided to go to Wesleyan
