Did Anyone Watch Prince Andrew's Interview?

I didn’t but I’ve been reading the fall out stories, and they get worse and worse!
I have no idea if he did what he is accused of, but at the very least, he has poor judgment.
That said, I do feel kinda sorry for him; he’s forever a pariah.

He always had a reputation as a womanizer. “Randy Andy”… LOL

So, regardless of whether he did what he is accused of doing, he is a pariah.

Sounds like Prince William told the Queen to sack him.

I don’t feel sorry for him. He was born to much privilege and opportunity and squandered it hanging out with creeps at the very least. Going rogue with that interview and tainting the family Firm. Buh-bye. I’ll save my sympathy for those who face hardships and struggles not of their own manufacture, who don’t benefit from all the opportunities he has had.

I think you mean Prince Charles rather than Prince William, OhiBro. Several news reports have indicated the decisions made were the Queen’s in consultation with the Prince of Wales. While Andrew is reportedly the Queen’s favorite child, he has always been obnoxious and I think he is getting his comeuppance. That said, I feel very sorry for his daughters.

From items I’ve seen, it was in consultation with both.

I stand corrected. Apologies.

I can’t believe Andrew’s handlers/PR people/attorneys ever allowed the interview to even happen.

Seems like he’s been stripped of his duties, state income, sponsorships… and the Queen has cancelled his 60th birthday gala in February.
Yes…pariah.
Feel sorry for his daughter…guessing his scandal will taint her upcoming wedding…

I thought the original notice was suggesting he would be stepping away from public duties for a while, but now it appears that it is expected to be permanent.

Spin?

This story was BIG news on Australia Sky News last week. (I was traveling.) Re #6 - Andrew’s PR Advisor (Jason Stein) advised him NOT to do this interview and when Andrew went ahead with it, the Stein resigned. All his predictions of backfires came to pass!

I didn’t really intend to follow this story, but every time I turned on the TV, it seemed to be in front of me. I have been surprised the last couple years in seeing how much US coverage is carried by Sky News and how objectively that news is generally reported. I find the network better than CNN or Fox for getting quick news about the US when I’ve been in Asia and Oceania. (Explaining why I was tuned to an Australia station…)

This article says it was Prince William: https://nypost.com/2019/11/24/prince-william-played-key-role-in-prince-andrews-buckingham-ouster-report/

I would think that both Charles and William would be very aware of the potential impact of Andrew’s scandal on the monarchy as an institution, especially when the Queen is nearing the end of her reign.

I read that Prince Charles strongly supports the concept of limiting the active, working royal family to a smaller core group of people – those in the immediate line of succession and their spouses. It’s probably a good idea for multiple reasons, one of which is that with fewer people, there are fewer opportunities for screwing up.

And it is a good way to ensure that anyone on the family payroll is doing actual work. The threat of losing an income alone might cause those who are misbehaving to change their ways.

Didn’t Andrew date a porn star before he was married? I have no sympathy for him.

There was a bruhaha between Charles and Andrew over the Royal title for Andrew’s daughters. Edward and Anne didn’t accept the royal titles for their kids, but Andrew fought for his kids to be HRH. I think it finally ended that both Eugenie and Beatrice have ‘public’ jobs and not royal duties.

I think Charles is quite grumpy and mean to his siblings. Who cares if they are HRH? Charles had some pretty disgusting texts and phone calls with Camilla and he’s going to make her queen (except I think Elizabeth is going to live forever).

Fergie has come out in support of Andrew’s character. But is that simply to protect her daughters?

No one else in the royal family seems to be supporting him. Is that typical of the royal family, or does the silence speak volumes about his guilt?

There have been rumors that Fergie and Andrew will remarry once Prince Philip dies. Philip hates Fergie. Fergie is not invited to anything with the family but was invited to Harry’s wedding.

Andrew looks older than 60. His hard partying life has caught up with him. Maybe this early retirement is what he needs.

The Queen will do what she has to do to protect the monarchy. The family has a history of putting the institution first over the personal. They cut Edward VIII out of almost all family contact after the abdication. George V even left his own cousin, Nicholas II, Tsar of Russia and the tsar’s family, to be shot by the Bolsheviks rather than risk his reputation at home. He could have sent a rescue ship but chose not to. He thought it would be an unpopular move with the British people.

But the Queen is definitely doing the right thing.

There was a recent article in the Daily Mail showing that Katie Couric and George Stephanapoulos had dinner at Epstein’s house during Prince Andrew’s New York stay there. A dinner that occurred after Epstein was released from jail. But apparently there is no consequence to them for that.

Anne’s kids were not offered, and were not entitled to, titles, royal or otherwise. Titles still descend via the father in the UK. Anne’s first husband declined an earldom at marriage, ,which would have given their kids titles like Margaret’s children, but they, like the Snowdon kids, would not have been royal.

Well Charles and Anne were royals before Philip was a prince, so is there an exception if your mother will be Queen?
