Baby Boomers went to college and were able to learn without being told to be gender neutral, that they had white privilege, they needed a safe space and to shut down conservative speakers. Today you have all of that being shoved down the throats of college students and more.
In the 1960s you could go to college and expect to be in an atmosphere of diverse views, but today you can’t. You could disagree with your professor and not expect to get an “F” grade, but today you can’t.
Just look at the difference between the Baby Boomers experience in college and today’s student’s. The Baby Boomers were in an environment where people dressed nice, looked nice, the campus was clean, the food was good and the professors were professional.
Baby Boomers having the ability to attend college without what you describe as “restrictions” does not mean that they caused the problems and “restrictions” of colleges today.
At some colleges in the 1960s, non-white students were not welcome at all and harassed if they tried to enroll; were those colleges supposed to be “safe spaces” for white students who could not accept the possibility of non-white students at the same college?
At those colleges where non-white students were not welcome, there was little or no diversity in views regarding racial segregation.
As we all know the 60’s were a time when there was no social unrest, campuses were fully racially integrated and you could say anything you wanted to your professors. Plus, if you flunked out there was nothing to worry about (other than being drafted into that pesky Vietnam thing. :))
@Sue22 The ones who didn’t want to go to Vietnam went to Canada. If you were rich you joined the Air National Guard as George W. Bush did and you didn’t go to Vietnam.
No, it’s people like you who blame everything on everyone else.
I find it disgusting how the OP creates threads that results in responses from very credible posters and yet the OP completely ignores those posts, instead creating even more controversy with new statements and claims.
Yet another thread from the OP, ranting about all that’s wrong with the world.
You have choices. They are what they are. Choose from the options you have. Then YOU go and make the world a better place.
But blaming others won’t get you anywhere. It won’t gain you respect, and it won’t gain you any results.
And as to how wonderful it was to attend college in the 60’s, let’s not forget the possibility of Death by Protest— take a look at Kent State if you don’t know what I mean.
@thomas4881,
It’s clear from your other posts that college didn’t go well for you and that you’re feeling pretty bitter. I wonder if you might benefit from a conversation with a professional who can help you figure out why your past patterns didn’t work and how you can forge a more successful path for yourself. I wish you the best of luck.
