Michigan State and UVM are too very good schools that offer a lot (and very different things). MSU will give you all the school spirit you can handle while UVM has a much more LAC feel and is on the list of Public Ivies. Hofstra, UNCW, maybe even Drexel or JMU/GMU are all good ideas. I think you will have a very hard time getting into Northeastern (where I am at school). You are 250 SAT points below the 25th percentile and close to 400 points below the median and GPA is also below the 25th percentile if 3.6 in unweighted. Of those that you have not heard back from Boston University, Fordham, and Rutgers are prob the easiest.

Honestly, it’s hard to tell with Northeastern. I know someone with a 4.23 and a 2200 with loads of ECCS who was deferred and eventually rejected in the RA pool. I also know someone with no honors classes, no family alumni, and a 3.0 and a 1480 SAT score who attends Northeastern from my school. It was a long-shot for EA with my SAT scores. Ehh with my ACR scores. Every year, kids from my school with much lower stats than expected get in RD and kids with decent stats either get rejected or sent to the study aboard for a semester because NE could not provide them with on-campus living. I applied to NE because I’ve seen around the campus and the groups of people that I know attend seem to absolutely love it there. Besides the fact, even if I do get in, I will not be able to afford the tuition.

BU stats for kids in our school are very similar. Many kids with lower GPAs, lower SAT scores, and almost no to little honors classes get in. But again, no one got $$$$ from BU always.

Flagler is a good fit stat-wise & financially but does not have a pre-med or anything of the sort. I’m a current junior there & would be happy to answer any questions about Flagler if you decide to apply anyway.

Is there a reason you don’t like the acceptances you have? Is Vermont doable for your family?

Another school I was thinking about for you is Muhlenberg…I believe it is test-optional, very good pre-med and you might bring diversity to the campus. If you are a male, you might also bring some gender-balance to the campus. I’m not sure about merit $$ there though, some schools require scores for that. However, they might be willing to work with you if you are an interesting enough candidate to them. Very holistic admissions at Muhlenberg, from what I have heard.

If the average GPA is 4.0, it doesn’t mean your school is competitive- it means that there is some serious grade inflation.

You can do pre-med almost anywhere-- it is 8 courses generally, not a major. Your sGPA and overall GPA plus MCAT score is what really matters, not where you go to school. You do not need a top 100 school. As others have said, it is more important to find a school you can afford than perceived prestige.

Update.
Got into Rutgers. Denied from Wisconsin.
Urgh. My Rec’s and my Essays for Wisconsin were pretty good.
But I reckon the grade point average and the low standardized test scores screwed me over. ****ed. But I really don’t care about this point. Their loss. I’m just mad I spent so much time over the essays.

Congrats on Rutgers!

Thanks! I’m pretty happy with my rutgers acceptance. Ultimately, I’ll probably end up going there unless I end up getting into UMiami/UFlorida or a higher-tier school. I got a scholarship for 12,000 grand to Michigan State with free study abroad for a year.
Ultimately, I’m so tired of applying, I’m done.
The regular decision list for me was:
Loyola Chicago (Free)
Carleton (Free…It’s a long shot I know)
St. Olaf’s (Free)
Lehigh (dream school, wrote excellent supplement essays. had an interview and visited. so I’ll keep my fingers crossed)
Holy Cross (Long Shot…I love Worcester though. I e-mailed admissions and submitted a letter and additional supplements)
Rollins (Target…really good with aid according to the kids with similar stats who’ve gotten in from our school)

Axed:
Loyola New Orleans (free. but I don’t want to live in New Orleans)
Marquette (Submitted app did not send transcript. Same for Loyola New Orleans. Didn’t like location)

Might apply at:
Muhlenburg (Don’t require any supplements. Seemed like a good fit. A poster mentioned it, any more info people? Is it possible can I request an off-campus interview?)

Congratulations on having several acceptances in hand so early. Frankly, I wouldn’t bother with Carleton. Not only is it a super reach for you, but they are need-aware.

Am I correct in thinking that you got money from MSU and U VM? Does the amount make either school doable for you? Why would you pick Rutgers over either of them?

It makes it slightly doable. I’m waiting for the packages. I like the feel and student body better at Rutgers than at MSU or Vermont.
