Did I made the right decision.........?

Well, I transfer from Pre-Calculus to Trignometry class yesterday. I ended up getting a C- in Pre-Calculus class for first semester and I transfer to Trig because my Pre-calc teacher confuses me when he teaches the lessons each day. I also didn’t want to go back to Pre-Calc because I thought the Trig teacher offers retakes for failed tests, but today I just found out that he only offers make-up for students who were absent. He does not offer retakes and my used to be Pre-Calc teacher does offer retakes. I have a doubt that if I cannot retake a test, that I will do bad on most of the tests. I kinda want to go back to my original Pre-Calc teacher because he offers retakes and I have a better chance of passing the class at the end. However, in his class, I never learned much from his lessons because they were so confusing and ever since I transfer to Trig. I understood all the concepts much better. Do you think I made the right decision? Should I transfer back to Pre-Calc?

best thing to do is try to score well on the first attempt. There will be very little opportunities for retakes in life…

You may want to consider dropping down an English class or two, Miss “Did I Made.”

^haha. i saw that too =P
on topic, why do you depend that much on “retakes”? oh come on, i dont think its imposisble to pwn a test if u study… precal is like algebra II, if u need help/tutors online, u can search for MATHTV, khanacademy, or patrickJMT in youtube. i’m pretty sure u’ll get lots of help.
im pretty sure its gona look really bad if u transfer back. i wouldn’t do that, that’ll put myself in a very awkward situation.
so i guess, stay?

No…i cannot drop an english class because 4 years of english is required to graduate from high school…it is also require to take 4 years of english for college requirements.

wow. seriously? my teachers stopped letting us “retake” tests in 8th grade. i hope these aren’t honors classes, because this is NOT preparing you for college at all. suck it up. score well on tests the first time, like most high school students do. if this is true - “I have a doubt that if I cannot retake a test, that I will do bad on most of the tests” maybe you should drop down a level in math or retake algebra II.

We’ve never been able to retake tests ever. In third grade I once skipped the backs of all the pages and got a 40 and my teacher still made it count.

No…I already took algebra 2 and passed it with a B and why would I retake that class again if I didnt fail? That would be a total waste of time. My next level of math is Pre-Calculus or Trignometry.

Taking Algebra II again wouldn’t be a horrible idea if you failed precalc. Precalc basically IS algebra II, just mixed with some other stuff/taken farther. Pretty much, it’s a review. So maybe you need an algebra II refresher.

Otherwise… I don’t know any math teachers who allow students to retake tests. Just study hard and get passing grades the first time around… it may not be easy, but it is very possible.

Well,I did not fail Pre-Calc first semester when I took it. I got a C- and I just transfer to Trig two days ago because of the way my Pre-Calc teacher teaches and his teaching style is really confusing to me. After I transfer to trig, I understood everything much better, but i’m still afraid that I might won’t do so well in that class since the teacher does not offer retakes. My original pre-calc teacher does offer retake…so im basically asking should I stay in Trig or transfer back to my original pre-cal teacher?

Plus, we are not allow to repeat any courses if we did not fail them. We repeat classes if we get below a C.

why… do u have to retake???
life does not offer a second chance…

If you like the Trig teacher better and you actually understand what you’re learning… then stick with it. If you understand the material, you should be able to pass tests the first time around.

No, I do not have to retake tests…but my original teacher offers them for students who fail there test on the first time…actually in the past I have many teachers who offer retakes…

I have never had any teachers who offer retakes…

i have had a few that throw out your worst quiz score at the end of the semester…but those classes have like weekly quizzes so one quiz doesnt really do that much because of how many we took.
just study for the tets the first time and you wont have any problems.
also…you said u didnt understand the other teacher…that is kinda a problem especially in math. do you understand this new teacher better?

Asian-girl – I wouldn’t make this decision based on retakes or not, because you should really try to develop some foundation in the stuff you’re studying. I think that you should continue along with the class you understand well now, because it looks like you could use some time to just fiddle around with the math in a relaxed way. Try to get an A in trigonometry. If you build confidence in this class, you may be able to just skip precalculus altogether.

It sounds like if you stay in precalculus, you will just be more confused, and there is nothing worse to someone confused than a class which moves on based on ideas that confused her in the first place!

I would try what I’m comfy with now, and attempt to gain some confidence, then move on. Unless you have other issues going on, I fully believe it is possible for almost anyone to do better than a C- in precalculus. But to attack the problem, you should be careful and find the best way possible.

Our teachers stopped allowing retakes in middle school. In fact, while you can throw out one quiz grade per quarter, even the option of extra credit is defunct by upper school.

There is one exception: Analytical English Papers. You are allowed one rewrite. Doesn’t apply to research papers.
