Next year I am rooming with 5 other guys in a suite and we are all avid gamers. Also next semester I am likely going to be very busy with academics because I am going to have orgo and physics, both of which are time consuming and hard.

Before I ask for advice, here are my pros and cons so far,

Pros:
guys are really friendly, I will have no problem getting along
guys share similar interests with me
I can game at night when I get back from the library and need a break
6 person suites rule- the fun possibilities are endless

Cons:
I will guarantee my virginity for another year- could be viewed as a con?
I don’t know if I will be motivated for academics if being in the dorm will be so fun
I hope they don’t stay up late partying and being loud when I have an exam the next day

I had the other choice of staying in another dorm full of premeds, and I would be very motivated in that dorm. But I chose a laid-back, gaming dorm versus a dorm that’s going to be empty all the time because everyone will be at the library. Did I make the right choice? Did I screw myself?

I don’t know if that was a bad choice. Do you think you’ll be able to say no to playing video games? Are you sure they will always want to play games(they might have hard classes too)? Pre-meds can also do fun things.

I’d think that in general, it would be a good idea to be able to have a relaxing place to go away from all the pre-med stress. You don’t want to be living in an atmosphere where 90% or more of the people you’re living with are freaking out 24/7 about labs and papers and grades.

I know plenty of guys who play games (RPG, board games, Magic, and/or video games like Halo, etc) that have girlfriends/date around/have had girlfriends since I’ve known them if they are currently single. You just have to find girls that are either into that or don’t mind guys that are.

You just need to have self control. There are guys I know who are like games who date and do well in school, and guys I know who literally spend all their time gaming and as a result have little social life and few good grades.
