<p>I am a 4th year at Berkeley, graduating in May with Econ. I am applying to law school and was wondering if I made a wrong choice in majoring in something I dislike and apparently suck at. I have a 3.75 GPA, but if I were to major in something else I would have gotten a 3.9 (I know this because I took a bunch of classes for one particular major and got all As).</p>
<p>In the same regard, I am somewhat regretting not applying to Haas, not because I want to work in business at all but because of its name. In fact, my father asked me to major in business in case I did not go to grad school. However, I did not apply to Haas like he wanted despite the fact I had a 3.8 on the pre-reqs because I told him I did not want to do business. I still do not want to do business nor do I have any intention in working in business (despite majoring in Econ) but I’m not sure if I should have applied because Haas is “prestigious”.</p>
<p>I feel like maybe I should have listened to my father and applied and perhaps gotten into Haas (statistically speaking your chances with a 3.8 are high), even though I have no intention of working in business, but purely for its namesake. Plus Haas upper divs are easy so I would have gotten a higher GPA for law school.</p>
<p>What do you think? I know it’s futile to regret the past, but do you think that I made the wrong decision?</p>
<p>I think part of the reason why people at Berkeley feel BusAd is “better” than econ because many BusAd rejects have econ as their backup.</p>
<p>I know. But that doesn’t answer my question. Should I have listened to my father? That is the moot point.</p>
<p>I have no intention of working in business, ever. (One of my parents works in finance and I absolutely loathe this idea.)</p>
<p>My only consolation is that outside of Berkeley, people respect Econ more because it appears more quantitative than Business, as egotistical as this sounds.</p>
<p>Once I go to law school, I realize all of this is irrelevant, but my father was just reprimanding me the other day for not applying to Haas 2 years ago. I’m not sure what to think.</p>

<p>Anyways, your GPA of 3.75 is high enough for grad school and you don’t even plan on doing business. Why would you even go into Haas if you’re doing law? That’s like saying, “I want to do art, but since I’m at Berkeley, I’m going to major in computer science for the namesake, even though after I graduate, I want to be an art professor.” I think your decision is valid.</p>
<p>Whatever happens, I don’t think you should spend too much effort or time regretting your past actions.</p>

<p>I think it’s just bugging me because my dad keeps bringing it up. The only reason I majored in Econ was because he told me the major I wanted to choose and excelled at was “disrespected” and unemployable. (I won’t specify which major it is.) I’m just conflicted. </p>

<p>Here’s what I think:</p>

<li><p>If you have a 3.75, you don’t suck at the subject. The difference between a 3.75 and 3.9 is nil and no one cares.</p></li>
<li><p>If you don’t intend to ever work in business, then applying to Haas is pointless. The name is only prestigious if you work in business. Would an employer in engineering care whether or not you went to Haas?</p></li>
<li><p>It seems like you should have either listened to your father and applied to Haas or followed your interest and majored in what you wanted to. Instead you did neither, which confuses me.</p></li>
<li><p>It doesn’t matter anymore, parents will be parents.</p></li>
