Did I receive $0 in financial aid?

I go to check the SJU financial aid award letter on the UIS and it states that “You have unsatisfied student requirements for this aid year.” However, it then states, you have been awarded $44,111 in fin. aid, which they also say is my cost of attendance. I don’t understand. Did I receive ANYTHING? In addition, when I go to check awards summary , it states this:

I apologize for the long post in advance. Thanks.

It sounds like you have been selected for verification. If that is the case, the college is requiring you to send them some information. Until you do so, your aid would be pending. You need to find out ASAP what verification documents they want and how they are to be sent to the school. It is very important that you do this ASAP. The school will check the information in what you sent with your financial aid application forms.

They will not complete the verification process or award you aid until ALL of the information is received.

It looks like you were offered $23,230 in grants (including TAP and Pell), $17,881 in loans and $3,000 in work study. All subject to verification. That’s a lot of loans.

if i were you, i’d be on the phone with them 1st thing tomorrow morning. don’t reply on any info you receive on the forum.

^You should contact the FA office at SJU to confirm what the “unsatisfied student requirements” are, but it could be something as simple as not having registered for classes yet for the fall term. Oftentimes a student account will show a “hold” until after the student has attended orientation and/or registered for classes. I wouldn’t worry too much since they awarded you an FA package, but definitely call to confirm.

Make sure you consider their package carefully. As I read it, your package contains almost $18,000 in loans just for freshman year with your parents being on the hook for almost $10,000. Is their credit strong enough to qualify for similar amounts of loans in years 2,3, and 4? Do you really want to graduate with $70K plus in loans? Additionally, work study doesn’t necessarily guarantee you a job to earn that money, so that $3K isn’t guaranteed either. Just make sure you know what you’re getting into before you head down that path. Good Luck to you!!

You absolutely need to contact the school. Check all of the correspondences in your student portal as well…to see if there is any other information related to verification.

But yes! Call them first thing in the morning.
