Did not qualify for financial aid at Yale. What can I do?

So I recently found out that I did not qualify for financial aid at Yale and my parents are not willing to pay for my college because they think “it’s good for me” if I have to pay for my own college. I’ve talked to the fin aid officers but they are not helpful at all and cannot even tell me why my EFC is so high. I’ve thought of only one option.
-Take a gap year and get married.

I do not want to have to attend my state college. Ugh. My goals in life are so much bigger than that, and I honestly don’t care about money, but I think I’d starve if I had to take out $250,000 in loans for my first four years, as I plan to go to med school afterwards. I feel so desperate because I cannot do anything about it, and it’s not even my fault. Does anyone have an answer for this?

Yes. You need to adjust your attitude a bit. You do know that there are many doctors who graduate from public universities for undergrad as well as medical school. There are also doctors who work their way through collefe…even maybe starting at a community college.

If you are really a competitive applicant for Yale, with stats high enough to be considered for admission…then you would also have been a candidate for very fine merit awards at a number of other schools.

I’m going to add…if you are financially ineligible for need based aid at Yale, you are not likely to receive it anywhere else either.

Please tell us how you know your financial aid award from Yale. Is it the actual award, or are you basing this on their net price calculator.

ETA…I see you got accepted SCEA to Yale. You say your family income is in the $100,000 range. Are either of your parents self employed? Do they own a business? Do they own real estate other than your primary residence?

And last,y, did you check every single line of your Profile to make sure the numbers are 100% accurate? Did you only report student income in the student section…and parent in the parent section?

Do your parents have significant savings in NOT retirement accounts?

What’s wrong with your state college?

One of my parents owns a business and I’m basing getting no financial aid off of an actual offer from Yale. I’ve checked my profile to make sure everything is accurate and it is. The fin aid office said since there was around $100,000 in depreciation of assets, they added that onto the total income? I’m not totally sure about it because they would only talk to my parents.

Closing thread. Asked and answered.
