Did something stupid, need advice....

Lets just say i did something stupid and it left me with a gash and a swollen big toe. Any ideas on how to make it heal faster?

it isn’t deep enough to need stiches (thank god) but annoying enough to cause pain. I can’t use neosporn or polysporin because i’m allergic to them. I have some stuff from the doctor that does similar to those.

I currently have it on ice and am waiting for the swelling to go down before i bandage it up.

Ice is really the best thing for all types of injuries. You’re sure it’s not broken??

Sorry. :frowning: Ice it and elevate it. You could also try an anti-inflammatory (asprin, advil, motrin,).

Keeping it clean with soap and water is best - never use hydrogen peroxide on a cut. The ointments probably do little to speed healing and can interfere with healing. Veterinarians will tell you that wounds heal faster if left alone and clean. I have found that vets can be more knowledgeable about wound healing than human doctors. When my horse’s let was cut, I found out that less is more with regard to healing a non-infected simple cut.

How big of a gash is it?

Ouch! Sorry! I suggest renting a movie for this evening, ordering out, and opening a nice bottle of …something (not sure of your age). That’s my go-to advice for many types of ailments/injuries. :)

Hope you feel better soon.

lol its about 2inches long not very deep, but deep enough to hurt like heck.

Yeah i’m sure it isn’t broken. I had a similar injury (on finger) a few years ago that did the same thing.

thanks for the replys :3

Vitamin A & D ointment really speeds up healing. You might try that on it. Stinky stuff, but works great!

never use hydrogen peroxide on a cut

Could you explain why?

I heard that after you injure it you should boil it out one time then leave it alone. Because supposably it kills new growth or something :/

Hydrogen peroxide, alcohol and iodine can damage tissue and has not been shown to aid in healing. Neosporin and other ointments can cause tissue damage too. If you need to irrigate a wound, use saline solution or plain water.

Get an aloe vera plant, and use some of the fresh gel from a leaf.

RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation

Good Luck, feel better soon.

Tea Tree Oil is an excellent antiseptic, as well as a natural product that reduces bruising and irritation.

Smells gross, but works.

Trader Joes or any health food store will carry it.

If you decide to try the Tea Tree Oil, test just a tiny drop on your inner elbow first, wait a few hours and see if there’s any reaction.

It turns out I’m allergic to the stuff and it wasn’t pleasant finding that out.
